The Best Foods to Eat on Thanksgiving Ranked

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

Thanksgiving reminds us to appreciate what we have and allows for reflection on the lives we are living. Not only that, but it’s a holiday that gives us a reason to eat everything in sight without shame. What more could a foodie collegiette want? Here are the 10 best foods to eat on Thanksgiving ranked:

10. Brussels Sprouts

These healthy veggies can taste just like candy if you cook them just right, I promise. Dice these up in some olive oil, garlic, salt, and pepper; throw them in the oven and voilà! They are a magical side of greens to add to your plate!

9. Green Bean Casserole

Another dish of greens – see who said Thanksgiving foods weren’t healthy? There are many ways to make this iconic dish but green beans, fried onions, and mushroom soup is a delicious combination and sounds amazing. If you want to get even more fancy, add bacon bits for a little flair.

8. Stuffing

You can’t do this holiday without stuffing. You just can’t, it is a staple. When else do you really eat this mix of savory bread pudding?

7. Turkey

The iconic center piece to the whole meal. I know that some may be upset over this delicious bird being far from the top of the list, but there are so many amazing dishes to choose from and someone has to make the decision.

6. Gravy

Gravy is very underestimated in my book. It is a side dish to other side dishes. Add it on your mashed potatoes. Add a little on your turkey. Even add some on those roasted veggies. You cannot go wrong with some gravy!

5. Pie

Pumpkin pie. Blueberry pie. Apple pie. Pecan pie. Cranberry pie. Pear crumb pie. Chocolate banana cream pie. SO. MANY. PIES.

4. Dinner Roll

You would be lying if you said that you don’t have at least three dinner rolls before the turkey is even placed on the table. Dinner rolls on Thanksgiving are like the breadsticks at Olive Garden.

3. Sweet Potato Casserole

Come on, it’s an entrée topped with marshmallows. It’s the perfect cross between a meal and a dessert!

2. Baked Mac and Cheese

One of those classic American staples. If you don’t like mac and cheese, then I am sorry but I cannot trust you. Macaroni smothered in mouthwatering cheese and topped with toasted breadcrumbs on the surface. Imagine something better, I dare you.

1. Mashed Potatoes

Fluffy mashed potatoes are life. There is no denying this might be everyone’s’ favorite Thanksgiving dish on the table. Nothing can top it. Except for maybe… garlic mashed potatoes!
