The week we’ve all waited for has come and gone. The week that reminds us just how pathetic our wardrobe is and how we should hit up the gym. Yes, I’m talking about New York Fashion Week .To us average Joes here in the real world it is only the first few weeks of September, but in the fashion world it is already Spring. As models hit the catwalk, they showcased a wide variety of designers’ spring collections ranging from ready-to-wear to lines for costume enthusiasts.
There’s no doubt about it. Each designer’s goal at New York Fashion Week is to be bold, daring and to stand out. So much so, that it is crucial for them to forget all that is trending in the fashion industry because it is only then that they can discover the overlooked or even undiscovered styles. For example, Rodarte took what to the average eye is a printed oversized t-shirt, but with a few accents and layering of fabric it becomes a gown worthy of a StarWars convention.
Not only do classic space film series play a role in the design process, but we also see pop culture present in Donna Karan’s spring line. This Pharrell inspired hat is not only fashion forward, but it is perfect to wear when you’re a few inches shorter than the height requirement for the roller coasters at Six Flags. Sensible and stylish. Who could ask for more?
Perhaps what is the most rewarding part of Fashion Week is seeing the joy that it brings people. Certainly the spectators, whether in the audience or watching from home, were in awe with the exceptionality and unique styles showcased on the runway. However, the pride and gratification that it brings to the designers themselves in unsurpassable. You can just see the blissfulness light up Anna Wintour’s face
The moral of the story is, no matter who you are or where you come from, you too can be a fashionista, because if Miley Cyrus can wear nipple tassels and call it fashion, then so can you.
