NursingExpectation: You figure your nursing classes will be somewhat challenging, but you think all your hard work will pay off in the end because this is exactly what you want to do with your life.
Reality: You didn’t know it would be this hard and it’s actually not fun at all… Your professors think you’re an expert already and your only experience is helping sick friends…            BiologyExpectation: You’re on the pre-med track, so obviously all your classes will be super interesting and legit. You’ll pretty much be a doctor right away.Reality: You’re learning about plants and fungi in class and you’re in lab for over 10 hours each week, plus all your homework. Grey’s Anatomy did not prepare you for this.EnglishExpectation: You love to read and to write, so being an English major seemed just right.
Reality: After getting graded papers back, you begin to question if you even know how to write, plus everyone is constantly telling you you’re majoring in “unemployment.”
AccountingExpectation: You’re literally ready to get down to business, and to climb the ladder to the top.
Reality: Your classes are taking over your life and the little things, like your debits equaling your credits, make you more excited than you ever expected.CommunicationsExpectation: You’ll pretty much be living like Samantha from Sex and the City, taking New York City and everyone in it by storm.
Reality: Whenever someone asks your major, they just look at you with blank confusion when you tell them. “What does that even mean?”UndecidedExpectation: There’s really no need for you to pick a major yet. You have so much time to decide; just relax and take whatever classes you want for now. You’ll figure it out eventually.
Reality: All of a sudden it’s second semester sophomore year and you have to declare a major. All of your friends have already chosen their majors and you don’t know what you’ve been doing the last two years. S.O.S.
BUT DON’T WORRY, collegiettes, when you find the perfect major your expectations will match your reality and you’ll love going to class.
