On Sunday September 25 at 4 p.m. Fairfield University’s Campus Ministry held a Mass for seniors living on the beach. The Mass was on Lantern Point followed by a social at the Sea Grape from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
“We came up with the idea in Campus Ministry as a way to reach out to seniors who might not be involved in our programs or come to Mass on a regular basis,” said Father Mark Scalese, head of Campus Ministry.
Father Scalese notes that this was not a typical Mass, but less formal. “People could bring beach chairs or blankets or towels and sit on the deck facing the Sound,” Father Scalese said. “We used a table for an altar and put it by the sea wall so students could look out at the Sound while Mass is going on.”
Ben Bayers and Tom Wohlmacher provided music for the service. This was an all around beautiful event for Fairfield students who could come together and finish off their weekend while giving praise to God.
