To Kill A Mockingbird – a timeless, classic novel that you most likely read either in middle school or high school may be making a comeback.
Believe it or not, there is a sequel to the Pulitzer Prize winner recently discovered by Harper Lee’s lawyer Tonja Carter. Written back in the 1960s, Go Set A Watchman features the familiar characters we all know and love – the spirited Scout and the admirable and upstanding Atticus. However Scout is not a little girl anymore, she is an adult and Atticus is significantly older as well. The story is set during the 1950s (20 years after To Kill A Mockingbird), a time of major racial unrest, specifically in Alabama. Despite rumors that 88-year-old Harper Lee is unable to consent to the publication of the newly discovered novel, Lee is “happy as hell with the reactions to ‘Watchman’ “ according to Carter.
Will the sequel live up to its precedent? Or will To Kill a Mockingbird remain a one hit wonder? Decide for yourself on July 15th – when Go Set A Watchman is set to hit shelves.
