Imagine the Possibilities: Barbie’s Major Comeback

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

Recently, have you been wondering why you haven’t seen any of your favorite childhood toys around anymore? Well look no further. This week Mattel, the company that manufactures some of our favorite childhood doll and toy obsessions, released the most adorable video promoting Barbie. The two-minute video shows children, probably around ages 5-7, pursuing their dreams as young children. The commerical places hidden cameras, while capturing real reactions to the girls in their roles.

Besides the fact that the girl’s chosen are diverse, intelligent, and adorable, they prove that no matter what, your dreams are never out of reach. One of the girls is teaching a class in a lecture hall, another is treating animals as a veterinarian, and two others are giving museum tours while speaking about their adventures.

The moral of the video was simply one thing: “when a girl plays with Barbie, she imagines everything she can become.” This motivating video is a complete turnaround from the brand that we saw growing up, and it is great that the next generation of Barbie girls will feel empowered.
