If you’re a fan of Big Brother or The Talk, then odds are you have heard of Julie Chen. What you may not have known, though, is that Julie Chen is married to the chairman and CEO of CBS, Les Moonves.
Moonves recently came under fire for sexual misconduct allegations from a total of 12 different women. While the media investigates the allegations, Chen is very clearly standing by her husband’s side. At the conclusion of a recent episode of Big Brother, Chen signed off as “Julie Chen Moonves.” This was the first time in her 18-year career that she used both her and her husband’s name.
Earlier this week, Chen departed The Talk with a prerecorded message where she was brought to tears, which you can watch here. The message clearly had an effect on her co-host Sheryl Underwood and guest co-host Carrie Ann Inaba, who clearly support Chen in her decision to leave.
Some of the biggest names in daytime TV, including the hosts of The Real, weighed in on the matter in light of the allegations. Adrienne Bailon and Loni Love wished Chen the best. In addition to her warm regards, Bailon also encouraged Chen to use her platform for good, arguing that “this is the time that she should be talking about it; if you have the greatest platform on daytime television to speak to the people, to say your voice.” All of the hosts did agree that it was the best decision for Chen to leave her show, as it would be impossible for her to weigh in on the controversial issues that are discussed unless she were to open up about her own experiences.
Wendy Williams from The Wendy Williams Show was less sincere as she questioned Chen’s tearful goodbye in her edition of “Hot Topics”. “In my opinion, she wasn’t crying because of the cast and the crew and the staff and stuff. She was crying because now she has to go back to that compound and deal with that man and try to keep her son out of it,” stated Williams.
