For collegiettes, body image can be a constant struggle due to the media’s depiction of the female body. The ongoing battle between companies and women petitioning for the lack of responsibility the media takes when it comes to influencing females has increased in recent years. For instance, the Dove Campaign for Real Beauty which is meant to counteract unrealistic body ideals from other companies such as Victoria Secret’s Perfect Body ads, is now faced with the latest barrrier: Kim Kardashian’s nude behind. Kim’s goal of trending #BreakTheInternet with this photo seems like a quick way to essentially sell her body and cash in, but what kind of message is this sending?
In a world where models considered plus-size if they’re a size 8, and collegiettes feel weighted down by the pressure from society, they now have Kim’s backside to compete with. Taking over the front page of Paper magazine to come out this Winter 2014, Kim showcases her favorite asset, displaying everything including hours on end of meticulous Photoshop. Â
This is not the first case in which Kim has used Photoshop to alter her waistline and behind. Yet, none have been this exploitive to the ideals of young adult women before. The façade of not having a single dimple of cellulite, side boob (considering her bra size), or creases on her waist and back is so unrealistic. From angling her body in an unnatural, seemingly painful position without any of these flaws, it’s as if her face was simply cut out and placed on the body.
As a public figure, with millions of followers from around the world and all across the social media sphere, as well as being a mother, collegiettes must question what Kim was thinking with this post. See the photo that broke the Internet below (NSFW):Â
