The Las Vegas Metro Police Department (LVMPD) confirmed early Monday morning that 50 innocent lives were taken and over 400 people were injured in a mass shooting Sunday night near the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.Â
The shooting occurred at around 10 PM during the Country Music Festival in Las Vegas. Country singer, Jason Aldean, was in the middle of his performance when shots were fired.
According to NBC News, Police have described this to be “the worst mass shooting in modern American history.”Â
The gunman was identified as Stephen Craig Paddock who was from Nevada. The New York Times reports that Paddock was the sole gunman and later took his own life in his hotel room on the 32nd floor where he opened fire.Â
ABC News reports, witness Brian Claypool explained on Good Morning America this morning that he hid in a production area. He later went on to describe the scene saying, “The hardest for me was, I saw six young women. They were maybe 20, 22. They were all crying on the ground. I was trying to be calm.”Â
Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of those who were impacted by this terrible tragedy. Â
