The kitchen is no foreign territory for freshman Lindsay DeMunno and after tasting what she can bake, we are officially obsessed. Her whole freshman dorm hall has been buzzing about her incredible cookie bars, red velvet brownies and tasty cupcakes. And the best part is she’ll bake for anyone and even offers to teach you as she goes. Check out our interview with this sweet pastry chef who puts her whole heart into baking for delicious results.
Her Campus: Why do people call you Betty Crocker?
Lindsay DeMunno: Isn’t obvious, I like to bake. *Laughs. Everyone used to call me it in high school and now when people at Fairfield see and taste what I bake, the name kinda just carried on.
HC: Who do you bake for?
LD: I usually bake for my family and friends but recently I have been baking for anyone who asks! A lot of people have been stopping in to help and I love teaching as I go.
HC: How did you get into baking?
LD: Ever since I was little, I would always bake with my mom. It’s a tradition I hold close to my heart and with her by my side I found a passion for baking.
HC: How do you decide what you want to bake?
LD: Honestly Pinterest. I scroll through and I look for recipes that I want to bake. Oh and of course I keep in mind what my friends have requested that day.
HC: What is your favorite thing to bake?
LD: I love to make cupcakes or any type of bar (cookie, brownie, smores etc). One of my favorite things I have made recently was a chocolate fudge brownie cupcake with brownie batter icing.
HC: Do you plan on taking your baking career any further?
LD: Yes! I would absolutely love to open my own bakery with my sister one day. We plant to call it Sweet Sisters. Also, after college I would love to go to baking school.
