It’s that time of year again as we get an exclusive first look at fashion’s biggest night! Let’s be honest, the Met Gala is basically the Oscars of the fashion world! We’ve got you covered on all the ~deets~ from date, theme, and of course, our A-listers who will help take charge of the night’s festivities as honorable co-chairs. Exciting plans are in store!
Since the Met Gala is known for its creative themes, I’m sure you’re all dying to know what was chosen for 2019. Well, you’ll be happy to hear in typical out-of-the box fashion that it’s all about “Camp: Notes on Fashion.” It’s definitely not your average theme, but we would expect nothing less from a night celebrating over-the-top fashion. In an interview with Vogue, Andrew Bolton, who happens to be the Wendy Yu Curator in Charge of the Costume Institute, elaborates on how the “theme was inspired by Susan Sontag’s legendary 1964 essay “Notes on Camp.” Susan Sontag says camp is “love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration…style at the expense of content.” We can’t wait to see attendees and designers have fun with this one!
Along with an unforgettable theme, there of course needs to be an amazing sponsor and co-chairs to carry the excitement of the night! Gucci will be sponsoring this year with creative director Alessandro Michele, raising the bar for whimsical, extravagant style. Gucci ambassador Harry Styles, pop icon Lady Gaga, tennis star Serena Williams, and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour will take charge as co-chairs making this one of the most memorable nights yet.
We are so excited for May 6, 2019 to see the best in fashion, film, music, and art come together to raise money for the Met’s Costume Institute and festively celebrate a new exhibition!
