Day in and day out, mothers around the world have the ability to turn into superwomen in an instant. Regardless of if they are at home or at work, they manage to remind us collegiettes that seemingly earth-shattering moments are only small bumps on a long journey that is our lives. From broken hearts, bad decisions, and late-night stressed out phone calls, to meeting new people and embracing new experiences, they are there. Our mom’s are that one person who can hold the weight of our own worlds on their shoulders and still somehow manage to lift us up and keep us going. At the end of the day, regardless of what happens, our moms are the first ones to support and celebrate our success.
This universal bond between mothers and daughters was on full display at the ACMA’s last night. As with many award shows, Taylor swift is no stranger to the stage. Yet, last night was special as she was honored as a recipient of a Milestone award where Andrea Swift delivered the most sincere, beautiful, and inspiring speech about her daughter.Â
Andrea Swift, who has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer, presented her daughters award with a heart felt speech as she stated, “I’ve watched this milestone artist from the time she was a tangled-hair little girl on our farm, full of imagination and creativity, until right now as she prepares for her next world tour.” With the crowds cheers she added,  “And ever since then, her favorite thing in the world to do is to write a song, tell a story, play guitar or piano, and I’ve seen those things carry her through every emotion, every experience in her life, good or bad.”
Between her mothers sweet memories of Taylor as a young girl, to Taylors reaction as she smiled, laughed and cheered along with the standing ovation for her mother, this moment between mother and daughter is real and relatable.
“For many years, I was her constant companion. I witnessed a young girl with very few friends become one with many, learning to stand up for herself and the things she believes in. Being brave enough to explore her musical curiosity, having a voice against those who hate, and giving of herself to those in need.”
At this point, as most of the audience has been moved to tears, it becomes clear how famous or not, the strength of the relationship between mother and daughter is universal.
Andrea concluded her speech by saying, “I am a very proud mom, I want to thank the entire music community for taking such good care of her. And to the fans: I know you love her as I love her. And for that, I thank you eternally.”
Although Andrea may be thanking Taylor’s fans, as collegiettes, we hope that Andrea realizes we support her as much as her amazing daughter. Thank you Andrea for reminding us collegiettes how that our mom’s are our true best friends, our number one fans, our most sincere confidants, and our ultimate inspirations. Â
