Like many, my first thought when I see a designer’s collection is ‘who actually wears that?’ Many designers feature looks that not even the most eclectic celebrities would wear. However, there are also a large number of designers that unveil collections with pieces and stylistic elements that everyday girls can easily incorporate in their wardrobes. These designers are making clothing that is truly ready-to-wear.
One of the key trends going into fall and winter is knit on knit. This trend was prominent in Marc Jacobs’ collection. It seems frightening at first, as do most head to toe looks; but, when done subtly it can be an effortless and luxe winter trend. Free People has integrated this trend into many of their clothes, with their sweater-esque leggings and oversized billowy sweaters. These Free People pieces are easy and fun pieces that make the knit on knit trend more wearable.
Once again, fur will play an important role in fall and winter fashion for 2014. Many designers, including Roberto Cavalli, Pucci, and Versace have taken on dramatic fur. Many brands have made it easier to subtly integrate fur into our fall and winter attire. One of the easier ways to do this is with fur-accented outerwear. Edgy motocross jackets with a fur trim are an easy way to incorporate fur, without feeling like you are wearing a fuzzy robe.
Sportswear has been a HUGE trend for fall and winter. Athletic vibes make it easy to be chic yet casual, and certainly on trend. Fendi’s use of mesh fabrics and varsity jackets displays a simple yet high-end mix. Try pairing any outfit with a pair of sleek Nike running shoes, to give your outfit a cool, relaxed vibe.
The poncho was a key piece on the runways of Burberry and Roberto Cavalli. The poncho is an easy addition to any outfit whether it’s a maxi skirt or leather leggings. Retailers like Forever 21 and H&M are selling fun printed ponchos that look expensive but are within a collgiette’s budget.
