Sephora was recently slammed with a lawsuit for racial discrimination against Asian customers. In early November, Sephora was promoting a 20 percent off sale, which consequently led to the website crashing due to, “high levels of bulk buys for reselling purposes in North America and other countries” (Fashion Times).
In response, Sephora suspended numerous accounts that were apparently involved with the bulk buying. However, only customers with Asian last names were blocked after the site crashed.
Sephora’s decision to suspend these accounts is a highly discriminatory and racist act based on the idea that all Asian customers abuse sales in order to re-sell items.
Four women, Xiao Xiao, Man Xu, Jiali Chen and Tiantian Zou filed a lawsuit on November 18th against the beauty company (Fashion Times). Whether this was a misunderstanding or not, Sephora has some explaining to do.Â
