She was the queen of crimped hair, bellbottom jeans, and rhinestone accessories. We laughed with her, we cried with her, and we became an Italian pop sensation with her. Lizzie McGuire was the girl we all wanted as our best friend and the girl we all wanted to be growing up. She’ll forever epitomize those junior high years we all remember, and I’m sure some of us would like to forget. Here are some invaluable life lessons learned from one of Disney Channel’s greatest shows, Lizzie McGuire:
1. Anything is possible if you’re determined.
Lizzie really wanted a bra and didn’t stop until she got what she wanted. Who says this attitude can’t be applied to everything in life? If you really want something, go out and get it!
2. People change. Â Â Â Â Â Â
Something we’ve all learned (especially in college) is that as we grow up, people change and grow apart. It’s a part of life and the change is almost always for the better.
3. All you really need is a couple of best friends.
Gordo and Miranda were the ultimate best friends. Lizzie never needed to be part of a huge group to feel loved. They made three-way phone calls cool, had fun together no matter what, and always had each other’s backs.
4. Don’t try to be someone you’re not. Stay true to yourself.    Â
Remember the episode when Lizzie turned all leather jacket, nose-ring-wearing tough chick after becoming friends with the school’s resident bad girl, Angel, in detention? Thankfully, she realized that lying and forging notes wasn’t who she was or who she wanted to be and went back to the innocent Lizzie we all knew and loved.
And the most important one of all:
5. When I study abroad this fall, I can eat all the carbs I want!Â
Italian guys, bread, and pasta. What more could a girl need?
