This past week I attempted the impossible. I tried to go a week without complaining – emphasis on the tried. At first, I thought it couldn’t be that hard. I accepted this little challenge shortly after spending Easter with my family. Spending time with my family was a good break from all the stress of school, so I thought it would be easy. If you haven’t already guessed, I was wrong.
On day one, I woke up to the sight of snowflakes out my window. Already forgetting about my challenge for the week, my natural response to the sight was to complain. I love love love spring, so saying I was disappointed in seeing the snow was an understatement. In my defense, I didn’t think it would actually snow in April.
It seemed like I was going to improve after the ordeal with snow. I made it back to campus safely and had time to read my book (which is a favorite hobby of mine). Being back with my friends was nice and I didn’t have any classes that evening. Fortunately, there weren’t any complaints there.
As a first-year in college, I forgot that April is pretty much the end of the school year. I’m used to getting out in mid-June. The end of the year means more homework and tests, which equals more stress. Naturally, a girl needs to vent to her friends about stress.
Ultimately, I failed this experiment. I was weak, but that doesn’t mean that you are, collegiettes! Try this out for yourselves and see what happens (and if it works for you, please show me your ways).
