What You Need to Know About DNCE Before Red Sea Madness

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

Can you believe around this time ten years ago, we were all ~falling~ for the Jonas Brothers? How can we forget the #1 question of our preteen years: who is your favorite brother, Kevin, Nick, or Joe?

Fast forward to today, and we are now a little over a week away from DNCE showing up to Red Sea Madness! You may be thinking what does DNCE have to do with our love for the JoBros? The answer to that is simple! Joe Jonas is the lead singer of this pop band that will be rocking Alumni Hall. Before we all dance the night away, here is what you need to know about the group.

1. We cannot contain our preteen excitement of seeing Joe Jonas onstage again. But Joe isn’t the only one returning to the spotlight from the Jonas Brother tour days. Avid Jonas Brothers fans may remember Jack Lawless. He was the live drummer for our favorite brothers back when they were a band and now he’s the drummer for DNCE! As for the rest of the group, hailing from South Korea is JinJoo Lee, the guitarist. Last and certainly not least is Cole Whittle, who is the band’s bassist and keyboardist.

2. In an interview with InStyle magazine, JinJoo said the meaning behind the name is more than just a missing ‘a’. “DNCE is dance without an A, which is not a perfect word, but you don’t have to be a perfect dancer to dance in life. Sometimes it is never perfect, but you can still enjoy life.” We totally can get behind that logic! Who needs to be a perfect dancer to let loose and have fun, right?

3. If you haven’t heard this song, we’d be really surprised since it was practically always on the radio! That song is “Cake by the Ocean,” which was the band’s first hit. Excuse us while we listen to it on replay until Red Sea Madness.

4. To prepare for this concert, you should definitely give their other songs a listen. Two of our favorites are “Truthfully” and “Toothbrush.”“Truthfully” is one of their slower songs, but is so much fun to sing along to. On the other hand, with “Toothbrush” you’ll get a bit of the upbeat rhythm you heard in “Cake by the Ocean.”

We can’t wait to see all you Collegiettes at Red Sea Madness! In the meantime, we’ll be jamming with our roommates, so we are ready to sing with Joe!
