You’ve had a while to discover plenty of different places in and around Falmouth, but which is your favourite spot?
This may be the most “Falmouth” answer in all the world, but I really like to sit on the beach at night, especially when it’s a clear night and the moon is reflecting on the sea. I guess it’s because I grew up in a city so I’m still kind of mesmerized by nature. And also that the sky isn’t shrouded by pollution.
What is your favourite memory of Falmouth so far?
Oh wow, after being here for over three years this is a hard one… I think one of my favourite memories is from my undergraduate grad ball, where me and my best friend were a little tipsy and kept pretending we were in game of thrones when we spoke to anyone in the castle, and were singing the circle of life at the top of our lungs. Still in the castle. We also made good friends with English Heritage worker Beverly. (She insisted we call her Beverly after we got too friendly and called her Bev. Her exact words were, “Never Bev. Always Beverly”. Everyone needs a Beverly in their lives.)
What is your favourite book/film?
As a writing master’s student I feel like I need to give a really intelligent answer, but my favourite book series I think will always be Harry Potter, just because it gave me more than any other book did. As for film, I’m a big sucker for the Avengers movies. (although this answer may change when Suicide Squad comes out. So, SO excited for that!)
Cornwall has extremely unpredictable weather, what’s your favourite thing to do it is raining sideways?
I really like being snug and warm inside when it’s not so nice outside. The second rain starts falling against my window I go and make a cup of tea. It’s also a nice time to do some writing.
Are you a morning or evening person?
Evening person. I really want to be a morning person but it just never works out. A couple of summers ago I was genuinely one of those people that got up and ran by the beach, and I felt like some cool, edgy person who was from LA… but it didn’t last long.
What’s your favourite food/thing to cook?
Probably Spaghetti Bolognese! Ever since becoming vegan I’ve found I’ve got a lot better at cooking, and now my spag bol’s have gotten even yummier than before. Learn to use your spices, it really pays off!
Where would you ideally love to be in 10 years time?
I’d love to have had a couple of novels published, that’d be really cool! And be an owner of many cats. I still to this day have never had a pet. I’d also like to have a really nice house. With an office in it. And a garden! With lots of bee friendly plants in it.
Why did you choose Falmouth?
It’s creative atmosphere really drew me to it. There’s sense a sense of freedom in creating here, and that people aren’t just in things for money but because they really want to make stuff and be part of something. And that’s something I want to be a part of, too. It’s such a rare atmosphere.
