Early morning college classes. No matter how hard you try to avoid them, they always somehow manage to sneak their way onto your schedule. Whether it’s your first semester or you’re about to put on the famous cap and gown, we all have to deal with that one class that is way too early.
We always scramble on registration day to pick up the best professors and the best times so we don’t get stuck with that dreaded 8 am class. Morning classes are inevitable sometimes, especially if your major only offers a certain course at a specific time. It’s important to be prepared so that you can make it on time, focus and start the day off on the right foot.
Here’s your survival guide for getting through those tough mornings:
1. Set multiple alarms
Trust me on this one! It’s so easy to roll over and hit snooze or turn your alarm off and go back to sleep. Set 2 or 3 alarms and set them each about 5 minutes apart. You’ll definitely be awake by the last one. Don’t rely on yourself to wake up naturally and don’t rely on just one alarm. If you’re a deep sleeper, you can sleep right through it and miss your class. Setting multiple alarms and keeping the volume loud will help you roll out of bed and be on your way.
2. Caffeine. Caffeine. Caffeine.
So you’re finally up, but you still need to look and feel alive! Caffeine is your best friend for this one. Some of us just can’t function without our morning coffee so make sure you get yours. If you’re not a big coffee drinker, have juice or some tea instead. Get your energy flowing so that you can focus on your lectures and ace your classes no matter how early they are.
3. Pick your outfit ahead of time
This is a huge time-saver. Pick your outfits out the night before instead of first thing in the morning. It’ll shave time off your morning routine and makes your life much simpler. You won’t need to spend time deciding on your clothes. Plus, you can have your bag packed ahead of time so that you don’t forget anything while you’re leaving in a rush. This will make sure you have everything you need for class.
4. Pump up the jams
If caffeine isn’t enough to get you going, then it’s a good idea to pump up the jams on your way to school. Who doesn’t love listening to music to get yourself pumped?! Music can affect our moods and shape our attitudes. Listen to upbeat jams and it’ll set a positive tone for the rest of your day!
5. Bring snacks
Being in class on an empty stomach is the worst. You don’t want to be caught with your stomach grumbling and unable to pay attention in class. We often are tempted to skip breakfast and just head out. It’s alright if you skip breakfast here and there but you need to take a snack with you at all times because you need the energy. Bring a granola bar or an apple. Something quick and easy will do the trick, but if you can make time for eating breakfast, that is always preferred.
You probably won’t become a morning person for life with these tips, but they can definitely help get you through the semester successfully.
