If this girl seems familiar then you’ve probably seen her at a movie night, raising money for Up Till’ Dawn, or you might’ve just seen her on TV at Premios Juventud. This week’s campus celebrity is Andrea Viejo. Her radiant smile, positive attitude, and generous undertakings are just a few of the qualities that make her such a noteworthy figure on campus.
Major: Health Administration with a minor in Communication Arts
Year: Junior
What are some of your involvements on and off campus?
First off, I am the Fundraising and Recruitment Director for the St. Jude’s Organization, Up Till’ Dawn. I am also in the Health Care Executive Student Organization (HESO) at FIU. We do a lot of hospital work as well as spread awareness. Furthermore, I am a member of the Rotaract Chapter here at FIU. We are an organization that volunteers in several community service projects. Additionally, I am also a Street Team member of the Student Programming Council (SPC) which organizes events and activities for students. As a street team member I assist in promoting and advertising the events as well as working on them. I recently got involved in Smart Girls Club on campus, an organization for women who are dedicated and motivated to succeed in life. As for off campus, I volunteer at Miami Children’s Hospital and Ronald McDonald House. Currently, I am collecting eye glasses for the needy and soda tabs for Ronald McDonald House.
What are your goals after college?
My goals after college include working at a local hospital and starting my own nonprofit organization to help families and children.
What inspires you?
What inspires me is the feeling I get every moment I help out or do a community service project. I feel amazing and so grateful that God has given me the gift to give back to others. This motivation inspires me to continue to give back every day.
What advice can you give incoming freshman who want to make the most of their FIU experience?
My advice to any freshman would be to get involved. Getting involved helps you grow as a person, and what better way to get involved than in your own school? I would also advise them to be motivated in everything they do and stay positive!
What has been your favorite memory as a panther?
My favorite memory right now has been every moment I have spent with my SPC family! Being on the Student Programming Council has been such an amazing experience and I can’t wait to spend more moments with them.
What is one fun fact about you?
I was a 2013 Premios Juventud Super Hero and I love Oreos with peanut butter!
How did you win this award?
I got the award because of all the service I have done for my community. I have over 2,000 hours of service.
