Normal People by Sally Rooney
This novel follows the relationship between Marianne and Connell from their days as teenagers in high school to their journeys of self-discovery in university. If you’re looking for a romance book that keeps you thinking, and also feels like an extremely realistic portrayal of unrealistic love, look no further. Normal People will show you what a twin flame truly is and keep you guessing where the relationship between the two protagonists will head next as they repeatedly enter new phases in their lives. The book was adapted into a Hulu show that follows the novel’s storyline extremely closely and successfully delivers the content of Rooney’s text, so if you’re also looking for a show to watch, this is a great choice after you’ve finished reading the book!
The Seven husbands of evelyn hugo by Taylor jenkins reid
Not only does this book have an amazing plot, but it also has an even more amazing protagonist who is Cuban and bisexual. The novel basically tells the story of the fictional 1900s actress Evelyn Hugo, who is a strong-minded and passionate protagonist who is willing to sacrifice anything for what (and who) she loves – making her one of my favorite main characters of all time. The book initially tricks you into believing the story is about all seven of her failed marriages, but her true love story is with someone she wasn’t truly married to at all, but I’m not going to spoil anything. This book is 100% worth the read, and you will fall as much in love with Evelyn as everyone else in her fictional world did.
Shadow and bone Series by leigh bardugo
This is for those of you out there looking for a more fantastical world to dive into – a world with magical elements and all of that good stuff. However, unlike a lot of fantasy fiction novels which can come across quite childish and way too unrealistic, these books do an amazing job of transcending you into a make-believe world and actually getting you to forget it’s not real. Not only that, but the characters and plot lines are delivered very realistically despite the obvious fantastical element to the series. Luckily, this has also been made into a Netflix show that you can also watch to truly become submerged into the “Grishaverse,” as the author calls it.
