Twitter, Instagram, and other major social media sites are the typical social media hubs that millennials cling to. Not only is pop culture shared and retweeted, politics as well hava played a major role. The recent midterm elections brought many surprises to millennials all throughout social media. Many were disappointed by the outcomes due to the facade social media put up. Thousands upon thousands of retweets and celebrity endorsements all over social media predicted Democratic candidates like Andrew Gillum and Beto O’kure would win. It was a rare occurrence when major celebrities, such as Beyoncé, posted on thier Instagrams about thier support for Beto. Rihanna, who isn’t a U.S citizen, also posted a series of posts on Instagram showing her support for young voters to vote. A handful of celebrities who rarely post about their political views did post this midterm election. The celebrities actions on social media during the midterms say a lot about the current political climate in America. This convinced many millennials to believe that these two candidates were a shoe-in due to their huge followings and influence on social media.
