Ever since the Hallyu wave first landed in the States, K-pop has positively impacted many people’s lives through their music and dance. Along with their countless discographies, K-pop idols also brought in their own fashion palettes for fans to admire and copy. This year is nothing different but with the comeback of the Y2K style hitting both the US and South Korea, K-pop idols have been dressed up at their best, both on and off stage. Some of my favorite looks come from their world tours as they tour around the world! Here are three of my favorite KPOP fashion trends so far in 2023!
Cargo pants:
Cargo pants, while being a very simple closet basic, can be used in many different styles and seasons. My favorite way is to pair some cargo pants with wearing a baby tee, beanie, and a pair of Converse. K-pop idols such as Momo from TWICE and Hanni from New Jeans have worn cargo pants to their music showcases. Cargo pants are a great pair of pants to wear in the fall and spring months, with some lighter cargo pants giving a more cool and relaxed tone and thicker cargo pants giving a more edgy and powerful vibe. My favorite cargo pants that I have bought this year are UNIQLO’s Easy Cargo Pants!
knit sweaters
Even though Florida feels like a hot oven 24/7, the endless summer nights can be chilly. That’s where knit cardigans come into play. KPOP idols such as Red Velvet’s Yeri and Twice’s Dahyun have worn knit cardigans countless times, especially on their Instagram feed. Yeri, for example, is seen wearing them mostly on vacations to Jeju Island or Hawaii, complimenting linen shorts and sandals. KPOP idols usually love wearing knit cardigans when rehearsing their choreography or on a coffee date with friends. They are the perfect staple to a summer or year-round wardrobe!
baby tees
With the Y2K style hitting it off on the K-pop dance floor, many entertainment companies choose to dress their idols in various baby graphic tees. For their early 2023 comeback, NewJeans (one of the most polarizing groups in KPOP right now), wore basic baby tees with jeans, heavy accessories, and a bunny hat. These baby tees are classic, and very cost-effective since most major fashion retailers sell them, such as H&M and Forever21.
