So, we’re currently in the middle of April and that means one thing… hurricane season is in the horizon and us South Floridians know how powerful these storms can be. Meteorologists are predicting that this season may be just as powerful as last season, as the current patterns in the ocean are mirroring the same conditions as last year. It’s important that we are prepared for a possible hit from a storm at all times.
Living in South Florida, we’re so blessed with the “sunny South Florida” weather, which is not so sunny during hurricane season. I’m sure we’ve heard plenty of times from our parents, the do’s and don’ts about hurricanes, but its important to have a refresher before every season.
Some hurricane essentials are:
- Bottled water
- Canned Foods
- Important documents
- A list of all your medications
- Batteries and a flash light
- Portable charger (21st century problems)
- Battery-operated radio
In addition to the essentials, some do’s as the season approaches are:
- Keep up with the news and weather channel for important updates and advisories.
- Have a plan if you live in a low-lying area or an evacuation zone.
- Make sure you have shutters to board your house up in case of a storm.
South Floridians are always praying that we have a hurricane season with no storms, as do I. However, hurricanes are a very real thing and it’s important that we stay safe throughout this season.
