The prince met the soon-to-be-princess in the summer of 2016 through a mutual friend, as stated by Markle in an interview with Vanity Fair. Rumors of their relationship started to fly around October of that same year.
In November 2016, the prince confirmed his relationship with Markle and addressed the issue of her harassment by reporters and tabloids. The statement issued by Kensington Palace reads, “Prince Harry is very worried about Ms. Markle’s safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her.”

Finally, on November 27, 2017, the engagement was announced. The wedding is set to take place in the spring of 2018, according to a statement released by the palace. Markle announced that after the wedding, she plans to retire from acting and focus all her attention on her humanitarian causes.

The ring was designed by the Prince himself, featuring a large diamond from Botswana (where the couple took their first vacation) and two smaller outer diamonds from the personal collection of his late mother, Princess Diana. The diamonds are held together by a gold band.
The couple are set to live in Nottingham College at Kensington Palace.
While this is a very exciting time for them and the royal family, people everywhere are mourning the loss of their chances with the prince. Â
