This past Friday the Student Programing Council (SPC) had their most famous event of the year: the Build-A-Bear Pit Event. The line of participant started forming almost two hours before the event in expectation and continuously kept its length for the duration of the event. HerCampus FIU was on site to listen to some of the commentaries about the exciting task of building a bear for Valentine’s. Check it out.
Jasmin Ventura, a psychology major, was in line for hours to make a husky looking plush for herself. At her side was her friend Isabella Zengotita, a major in computer engineer, whom was in the process of acquiring a beautiful unicorn for her brother’s Valentine’s. They both expressed their excitement at the whole process and how they even got hearts.
Following them were Veronica Nieves and Robert Alfonso, an environmental studies and biology major, respectively. They were putting all their love and caring (together with stuffing) inside the bears they were making for their significant others. Veronica commented that she loved the idea of actually putting a heart inside the bear because it symbolized all the love she put into the gift. She further added that her boyfriend Rishard D’Arbelles would love it, too.
We also had the opportunity to ask one of the SPC staff, Agustin Ortiz, about his experience at the event. “I like how we get to give out free things and have fun in the process.” he said. He also added, “It’s crazy, I’ve never seen such a long line in any of the other events.” Turns out, Augustin also got to make a bear. “I got a panda for my mom” and “no girlfriend at the moment” he mentioned.
This past Friday the school was roaring with events and activities in the name of love, and we found the Build-A-Bear event at the pit one of the most charming of them all. Whether you were there to give yourself a treat, show your love for another or simply to have fun, the end result was a wonderful experience.
