1. I Binge-Watched Good Girls Revolt & Here’s What I Learned
Amazon original, Good Girls Revolt, is based on a true story that follows a group of women who work as researchers at a news magazine called News of the Week. The magazine limits women to low-level positions and low pay by not allowing them to have by-lines in the magazine and assigning them to a male reporter. 46 women come together to file a complaint against News of the Week. Only a month into the show being streamed on Amazon, the series was cancelled by Amazon Video exectuive, Roy Price. After binge-watching the series and hearing of this disappointing news, it was clear the show had taught us a lot, like the importance of women supporting other women and facing the reality that “it’s a man’s world and we don’t want to just be living in it.”
2. From Scary to Sexy: Halloween Costumes in the 21st Century
Contributor, Kate, discusses the evolution of women’s halloween costumes and how it’s reflected the shift in society’s view of women. The iconic scene in Mean Girls proves just that and begs the question, how did we get to the point where nearly every costume option for girls is preceded with the word ‘sexy’?
3. What It’s Like To Be AÂ SoulCycle Instructor
Alumna, Kingsley Delacato, became SoulCycle’s newest instructor back in April and as SoulCycle enthusiasts ourselves, we took the opportunity to ask her everything we’ve ever wanted to know about being an instructor. From choosing the music for her classes to motivating people on the bike, we got the dish on what it’s like to be a SoulCycle instructor, including the most rewarding part of her job.
4. What It’s Really Like To Be A YouTube Vlogger
Southern California native, Riannstar, chatted with us about how she got her start as a YouTube Beauty Vlogger. She started her channel to share helpful tips and advice on everything from makeup and hair to food and travel. But her most popular video, a tutorial on how to achieve her everyday hairstyle, has over 3,700,000 views. However, her favorite part of doing what she does is the viewer feedback. “When someone tweets me that they tried a DIY I posted or tried a product I recommended, it really makes me feel like I’ve impacted someone’s life in a postive way.”
5. Beyond Fordham’s Gates
Like many of us who chose to attend Fordham, Kate was met with a lot of comments regarding the safety of our campus and the Bronx community. But after a year of living on campus, Kate discusses that the safety precautious we take are true for any city in our country. And that the way we often treat the Bronx community is hypocritical to the Jesuit mission of “men and women for others” that so many of us claim to live by. She puts it best when she says, “I’m not cautious because we’re in the Bronx – I’m cautious because crime, and often violent crime, is a reality in every city.”
