Midterms week is undoubtedly one of the most stressful times of the semester, and Netflix has the perfect cure – Season 2 of Love is Blind. This reality TV show is no stranger to drama with its complex love triangles, as seen in Season 1, but viewers pride themselves on guessing which couples (if any) will make it to the altar. Season 2 is no different and is even more dramatic than the last, so watching all 11 episodes shouldn’t take long at all.
Spoiler alert: this article features intense discussion about each of the engaged couples, so don’t scroll if you plan to watch Season 2 anytime soon.
Danielle & nick
We’re starting things off strong with this first couple who made it to the altar and beyond! Nick and Danielle seemed like an unlikely couple at first, with their only screen time appearing through fights and volatile emotional arguments. But as Danielle began revealing her past difficulties and opened up about her insecurities, Nick found himself in the same situation, and the couple gradually fell in love. To be honest, this was one couple that I mostly fast-forwarded through because of their sheer incompatibility. Despite the fact that Nick was a lot more levelheaded and mature than Danielle was, the couple seems to be pretty happy now based on the video Danielle shared at the Season 2 reunion.
Shaina & kyle
To viewers’ dismay, this couple didn’t even make it through the engagement, and it’s all because of Shaina’s relationship with one contestant (who’ll be named later). Shaina started off strong and proved herself to be a hardworking hairdresser with a desire to marry a “God-fearing man,” but she accepted Kyle’s proposal (and proudly wore his mother’s engagement ring) knowing all too well that he was completely non-religious, which raised some eyebrows. Even though Shaina seemed to be willing to overcome her religion for Kyle, she retraced her steps as soon as the couple met in-person, confirming that her sudden discomfort for marriage didn’t stem from religion but rather Kyle’s physical appearance. In my opinion, Shaina might’ve used religion as an excuse to dump Kyle and move on to her “second choice,” who was none other than Shayne.
Natalie & Shayne
Shayne and Natalie were even more unlikely than Nick and Danielle, but this couple was so close to officially being married considering that Shayne said “I do.” Aside from viewers commenting that Shayne was on coke during his wedding (which would explain the excessive sweat, bulging eyes, and overexcitement), the couple was so mismatched that even Shaina made it a point to comment about their relationship. Shayne seemed to have so much potential seeing as he changed dramatically from his time in the pods to his time with Natalie. But the love triangle between him and Shaina prevented the couple from ever finding peace, not to mention the fact that he needed consistent validation from Natalie, which she didn’t provide. Some people are hinting that this couple is back together IRL, but if their relationship is anything like what it was on Love is Blind, I don’t think that they’ll last long.
IYANNA & Jarrette
Success! Jarrette was one of the steady presences on the show, choosing honesty over visibility and explaining that he loved two constestants equally – Mallory and Iyanna. Unlike Shayne, Jarrette tried to keep his feelings as open as possible, which definitely led to conflicts with Iyanna that the couple resolved maturely. The openness and communication on both sides were one of the healthiest relationships on the show, so it’s no secret that the two are now husband and wife. In my opinion, Iyanna and Jarrette are a close second to Season 1’s Lauren and Cameron, which means that the future is looking bright for this couple.
Mallory & Sal
This couple didn’t get a lot of screen time, but it always seemed as if Sal put in more effort to get to know Mal than the other way around (cue the constant singing and guitar-playing). The fact that Mallory even looked relieved at the fact that Sal said “I do not” just shows how the couple knew that they weren’t going to work out. Mallory and Sal’s mini love triangle with Jarrette only heightened tensions, but the two seemed to be comfortable talking about the past and appeared to have resolved their issues at the reunion.
Deepti & Shake
How is someone like Shake even selected to participate in this opportunity? The world may never know. As someone intrigued by the prospect of dating somebody without ever seeing them, Shake’s superficial comments (which he claimed he stopped making but continued to do throughout the reunion) confirmed that he had no idea what he signed up to be on. Other than calling Deepti his aunt and telling her he wasn’t “animalistic” about her, Shake’s main job was probably to serve as free entertainment. Despite the fact that the two seemed to have genuinely deep conversations at times, I stand by the fact that Deepti was too good for Shake. He even confirmed his lack of attraction to her at the reunion and proceeded to tell America that the only person he was attracted to on stage was host Vanessa Lachey, eliciting groans from every other cast member. In a stunning demonstration of courage, Deepti said “I do not” at the altar and stood up for herself, proving that some people (like Shake) are just too superficial to marry.
