Muhammad Hassan Sarwar, GSB ’14

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fordham chapter.

Name: Muhammad Hassan Sarwar

Single or Taken: Single

Major/Minor: Finance

Hometown: Astoria, NY.

What he’s looking for in a significant other: Ambition, confidence, and understanding. Someone who is determined to leave a positive mark on the world, is willing to walk the walk together as equals, and wants a true partnership full of mutual trust and loyalty.

Why he picked Fordham: Mainly due to proximity to home (I am a commuter) and a promising and stimulating education. And the minute I laid eyes on Keating, I knew I had found my Hogwarts.

Campus Involvement: Currently, I serve as the Vice President of Finance of the United Student Government [editor’s note: and newly re-elected too!] and the Chair of the Student Activities Budget Committee, charged with the allocation of student activities fee to all clubs and organizations. I am also a Diversity Peer Leader, a program by the Office of Multicultural Affairs, as well as a member of the Interfaith Council. Previously, I was President of the Muslim Student Association for my first two years, was elected USG President of the Gabelli Class of 2014 for our sophomore year, and Secretary of the Students for Fair Trade club my freshman year.

Hobbies: I love long walks, especially when they are around sunset and by a river, my favorite being Riverside Park from 59th to 125th street. I also enjoy reading historical non-fiction and am a keen student of current affairs.

Favorite Pick-Up Line: Not a fan of pick-up lines; more often than not, they are demeaning and rather cheesy.

What is your hidden talent? Other than an uncanny ability to provide a historical anecdote for the weirdest situations, its still hidden.

If you were forced to sing karaoke, what song would you sing? “Set Fire to the Rain” by Adele.

What’s on your Fordham bucket list? To watch a spring sunrise from Eddies.

What’s your perfect date? A nice dinner followed by a stroll in a naturally beautiful area, like a waterside or a place with plenty of trees.

What is your life motto? “The unexamined life is not worth living” by Socrates.

Pick one!

Bronx Zoo or Botanical Gardens? The Botans! (the Gardens!!!).

Arthur Ave/Fordham Road?
Arthur Avenue, for all the delicious food places.

Cafeteria or Grille? Umm, the Cafeteria, because it has more to choose from and it provides such a sense of community.

RamVan or Subway?

As I have to take both to get home every night, this one is a little hard. I will pick the Ram Van for the amazing view it provides of the Hudson.

Met or MoMA? The Met, for all the classics (from the Temple of Dendur and the new Islamic galleries to the Roman Sculpture Court and so much more).

Hot Dog or Bagel? Bagel; can only eat hot dogs if the meat is Halal (conforms with the Islamic dietary code, which has not happened yet).

Broadway or Off-Broadway? Both; I appreciate talent wherever it may be.

Central Park or Brooklyn Bridge? Central Park (all those trees!).

Times Square or Union Square? Union Square, becuase it has a great neighborhood which houses my high school, the National Arts Club, as well as the Gramercy Tavern (and the statues of Presidents Washington and Lincoln are quite amazing).
