Love the winter but hate the cold? You’re not alone. If you go to school on the East Coast or in the Midwest, you know firsthand how chilly the winter months can be. Luckily, with the appropriate winter fashion, you can stay warm will living in a winter (fashion) wonderland.
The following is a list of must-have items for the winter season:
Tights
Tights offer us collegiettes™ the perfect mix of style and practicality. Increasingly, stores like Forever21 and Urban Outfitters have begun to sell tights in a variety of patterns and hues to match any wardrobe. While many of us collegiettes ™ may get the most use out of our neutral colored tights, we can still buy colorful tights to add a splash of color to our winter outfits. Besides being fashionable and comfortable, tights also offer collegiettes ™ an added perk: warmth. Tights—especially sweater tights—can help us brave the wintery winds and help make winter skirts and sweater dresses a possibility.
Corduroy Pants
Collegiettes ™, let’s be honest: we only rock the leggings-under-jeans looks for so long. As the weather becomes colder, a collegiettes’ ™ best bet for braving the winter months is to invest in corduroy pants. Corduroy pants are just as comfortable as jeans yet provide an extra layer of warmth that denim alone cannot provide. Just like jeans, corduroy pants are available in a variety of cuts and colors.
Parka Jackets
We collegiettes ™ can brave any snowstorm (or snow day) in style by wearing parka jackets. The North Face sells tons of winter parkas that can keep us warm as we walk around campus or go skiing during the snowy months. Since parka jackets are fluffy by nature, they then to look best and most sliming in black or blue. However, a winter-white parka with a defined waist also works and can keep us stylish and toasty.
Peacoats
Nothings screams collegiate more than a fashionable peacoat. Whether you’re walking across a quad to get to class or trekking it to your friend’s dorm, you can stay stylish and warm by wearing a peacoat. Peacoats are the epitome of preppyness and while most designers make blue and black peacoats, a growing number are starting to make grey, red, purple, and white wool jackets. And, just because everyone on your campus has a peacoat does not mean that your jacket has to blend in with the crowd. Many peacoats—especially double-breasted peacoats—are designed with statement gold, silver, or bronze buttons that can help jackets standout. Collegiettes ™ who love bold buttons and zippers should try to find military style peacoats, while collegiettes™ looking for a softer look should buy ruffled-bottom peacoats. (Fashion tip: ruffled-bottom jackets look best with skinny jeans or leggings).
Winter Accessories
A nice scarf is the ultimate fashion accessory. Not only can scarves be worn year-round but they can also be used both indoors and outdoors. A thick scarf can complete a collegiette’s™ look as she tries to fight the cold when walking through the wind tunnels around campus. Scarves come in a variety of colors that can match any winter jacket and are available in a variety of different fabrics. Gloves and mittens are also super necessary in the wintertime, especially since some winter jackets do not have pockets. Leather gloves can be seen as an investment piece that can be used each winter. Additionally, many companies have recently started to make gloves specifically designed for texting, enabling us collegiettes™ to continue our conversations outside. No discussion about winter accessories would be complete without mentioning earmuffs. Michael Kors makes some great headband earmuffs that not only keep a collegiette’s™ ears’ warm, but can also function as a hair accessory, since these headband earmuffs can help keep a collegiette’s™ hair in place as she walks outside.
Happy shopping and stay warm, collegiettes™!
