What is The Sex Lives of College Girls?
As Mindy Kaling’s Netflix hit Never Have I Ever comes to an end, fans welcome her latest production that came to HBO Max last fall. The show, The Sex Lives of College Girls brings viewers through the lives of four roommates as they navigate their first year at Essex College. While the start of college can be a time for self-exploration, it often comes with challenges that Bela, Whitney, Leighton, and Kimberly face together. The show touches on many relevant issues that women not only face in college but throughout the world today. Kaling has been known to incorporate a diverse cast in her productions and this show does not contradict this. The plot focuses on the positive and negative aspects of sex and relationships and each character exemplifies that. As Leighton struggles with being a closeted lesbian, Whitney had an affair with her soccer coach. Kimberly is exploring her sexuality by sleeping with Leighton’s brother Nico, and Bela has been sexually harassed as she made her way up the university’s comedy magazine, the Catullan. Last season left viewers wanting more, and hopeful fans await the release to find closure and understanding of what happened in the last aired episode.Â
Will there be a second Season?
On Dec. 7, 2021, HBO Max made an official announcement on Twitter proclaiming that there would in fact be a second season of the show. The official release date is Nov. 17, with two episodes followed weekly on Thursdays until the season finale in December. HBO Max original content creator Sarah Aubrey released a statement, “We are delighted that this comic, honest portrayal of the college condition has resonated for everyone, whether they had sex in college or not. We can’t wait to see where these uniquely complex yet relatable characters will go next.”
what will the second season be about?
Viewers can expect a continuation of the latest drama-filled developments in the four girls’ lives. After Kimberly cheated on her economics exam using the answers she got from Theta, she was forced to go in front of the academic review board and plead her case. Fortunately, she did not get expelled from the university but her scholarship did get revoked. In this season, we can expect to see Kimberly attempting to find the funding to keep her at Essex. The last episode finished as Leighton admitted to Kimberly that she was a lesbian. She will have to navigate her sexuality and cope with her breakup with Alicia. Whitney was able to confess to her mother, who is a politician, that she was the student who was sleeping with the soccer coach. Viewers should also expect to see more of Canaan and Whitney’s relationship in season 2. Last but not least, fans speculate that Bela and Erin (former co-editor of the Catullan) will become closer. Bela is also forced to navigate the new all-women’s comedy magazine and her past experiences with sexual assault. Overall, this season is expected to have just as much drama as the last and fans cannot wait for Nov. 18.
