4 Craft Hacks to Make This Valentine’s Day Special (Single or Not)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Valentine’s Day can be rough on both ends of the spectrum, I know. When you’re single, it is usually just plain awkward, and when you are taken it can get to be kind of stressful. So, you’re running out of time and Valentine’s Day is getting too close, what do you do? Well, whether your valentine is your best friend-turned-roommate or your long-term boyfriend, here are a few easy hacks to get you ready for the day, so get out your hot glue gun and your glitter and get to work!

1: DIY VDay Garland

This garland is colorful, inexpensive, adorable, and most of all, really simple. Cut out Valentine’s Day shapes in an assortment of red, pink, and white. You can use either felt sheets (which I have found to work the best) or plain ‘ole construction paper. Next, use twine (fishing line works too) and hot glue the pieces to the twine in a garland form. Hang them in the apartment, in the window, or even in your valentine’s car. Feeling crafty? Glitter the shapes for some extra pizzazz.

2: Make Your Own Gift Card

If you’re more the type of person who is calling their roommate “Valentine” this year, then you probably want to put something on the gift card amount like, “Good for 12 cupcake dates this year” or, “4 study sessions coming your way.” Use it as a little something to remind you down the road to spend more time with your bestie. As for the boyfriend, you can do something like, “Good for 5 movie selections”. That is perfect if you are anything like me and always end up in that fight about what movie you are going to see this weekend. Plus, once he uses the 5 up, you are free to pick the rest. 3: Pictures Tied to Balloons

I’m sure we have all seen a rendition of this one once or twice, but I think that this is the perfect time to do it. Get a dozen or two Valentine’s-colored balloons filled with helium. Next, you can do one of two things: either find pictures of you and your valentine and tie them to the ends of the strings holding the balloons (black and white work best), or write little notes such as 24 reasons why you love your valentine, or 24 reasons you can’t imagine not having them as your best friend. Here is an example in case you still don’t know what I am going for (it doesn’t have to be as lovey dovey as this one!!)

4: Cookies or Brownies Topped With a Romantic Touch

Feeling a little inspiration from Paula Dean lately? Well, this one is for you. Bake your bestie or your boyfriend’s favorite goodie and top them with these cute and easy sticks. Use red or pink felt (again, construction paper works too, but not quite as well) and cut them into arrow shapes or mini hearts and glue them to sticks. Then, once your goodies are cooled, stick them in and you are ready to go.

Don’t dread this Valentine’s Day, and if you waited until the last possible minute to think about it, you are not alone! So get out there, be crafty, and have a Happy Valentine’s Day!
