After 282 days, it’s finally here: a football game at Florida State University. It was weird having our first game on a Monday and a second game five days later but we went with it. After all, no Nole will pass up the chance to spend time at Doak.
These past few days without football have been boring. Many of us found there was little to do on campus and sometimes resorted to homework to fill the emptiness of a non-football game day. Waking up on Monday was the greatest, we were all hyped up for a new season, a new coach, and of course being back in Doak.
Despite our not-so-great season last year, Noles kept a positive outlook towards the team and their performance on the field. We had to deal with losing our winning streak with UM but at least we were able to beat UF! So on Monday, Noles kept this attitude and entered Doak thinking “this is our season, we won’t let rival schools make fun of our football team!” We came in ready to beat Virginia Tech (VT). Unfortunately, that did not happen. Here are some emotions fans felt after that difficult loss.

I know I heard Noles throughout the stadium, screaming at the refs, the plays, and so much more. From a Nole’s point of view, it seemed like the refs would flag us every time we scored and VT played with injured team members throughout the game to score more points.

2. Anger

I was especially angry when we scored that touchdown and they said it didn’t count. Like, are you kidding me, that was a touchdown! Why did they not count it? And then, of course, every time VT scored they walked over to our side sort of rubbing it in. Ok, we get it. You scored AGAIN and we didn’t.
3. Embarrassment

The final score was 24-3. It was not the prettiest score and not a great start to the season, but what was more embarrassing than the final score was the fact that almost all the college football teams in Florida won their games that weekend. I even had friends from rival schools rub in my face that they won their game and I didn’t. So, it sort of sucked!

4. Love

The one emotion I feel all Noles have no matter the end result of a game is love. There’s no denying the love we have for our Noles. So maybe we didn’t play the best or score the most points, but, at the end of the day, we are Noles. We are Unconquered and will not let a loss knock us down. We might have left that stadium feeling sad and tired, but we never leave hating our team. Like lobster mates, we are together forever. We chose FSU because FSU is our lobster.

5. Hope

We might have lost our first game and it sucked but this is not a precursor to our season. We are hopeful that our football players will bring wins back to FSU. We will always bleed garnet and gold and come back stronger in the next game.
