A Girl’s Guide To Throwing The Perfect Galentine’s Day Party

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Everyone knows Valentine’s Day is about celebrating love, and who is more loveable than the girlfriends who get us through life’s ups and downs? Whether you’re taken or single, Galentine’s Day is a special celebration of the love you share with your friends. Here’s your guide to throwing the perfect Galentine’s Day party.

Setting the Scene

Whether you’re throwing a themed party or sticking with the traditional red and pink color scheme, decorations that set the Galentine’s Day scene are a must. The first step in decorating for a Galentine’s party is finding the perfect table decorations to place your Valentine’s-themed food and drinks on. Some Insta-worthy decorations include a pink or red table runner, heart-shaped confetti, candles, and your favorite flowers (my personal favorites are roses!).

A photo wall is not only a fun decoration but also a place where you can capture memories with your best friends. When creating a Galentine’s photo wall, you can decorate it with colored tinsel, heart streamers, fairy lights, and heart-shaped balloons. A photo wall allows for many photo opportunities, making your Galentine’s party unforgettable!

Food and Drinks to Spread the Love

There are multiple options to create your Galentine’s menu. Two options include buying takeout or making food from scratch! While ordering takeout is an easy option for busy college students, I personally enjoy making food from scratch when hosting parties. You can even have your friends join along in cooking the Galentine’s dinner! Making heart-shaped pizzas, cupcakes, or cookies with your friends is a festive and fun activity for your Galentine’s party. If you want to get fancy, you could even make a cheese or chocolate fondue to dip in your favorite sweet treats and snacks.

There are also so many fun mocktails you can make with your friends, such as Shirley Temples or sparkling grape juice garnished with fresh fruit. To feel even more festive, make your mocktail’s Valentine’s Day colors with fun-shaped ice cubes. A heart-shaped glass is also always a great idea!

Making a Galentine’s Playlist

No Galentine’s Day party is complete without the perfect playlist full of songs to scream out your heart to with your friends. Songs on this playlist could range from love to breakup songs, whatever makes you want to get up and dance around the kitchen. You can even use your Galentine’s playlist to have a karaoke night with your best friends. My favorite artists for a Galentine’s Day playlist include Taylor Swift, One Direction, Olivia Rodrigo, and ABBA.

Rom-Com Movie Marathon

What better way to spend Galentine’s Day than watching your favorite rom-com movies with your best friends? Not only are they easy to enjoy, but they are also catered toward all of the hopeless romantics. If you’re looking for some of the best early 2000s classic rom-coms, consider 10 Things I Hate About You, How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days, She’s The Man, The Wedding Planner, and Mamma Mia!. If you’re looking for more recent rom-coms, Anyone But You, Set it Up, and The Proposal are some of my favorites.

Get creative!

Finally, adding in fun activities is another way to celebrate with your friends. Get crafty by painting wine glasses or making friendship bracelets. You can even treat each other with a gift swap of your favorite face masks and self-care items.

Happy Galentine’s Day!
