The Bachelor Winter Games premiered last Tuesday and it’s honestly everything we’ve been waiting for. The best way to describe the show is equal parts Bachelor in Paradise, equal parts Winter Olympics.
I know. Oh, and it’s international.
For those wondering, Bachelor in Paradise is a show in which contestants from The Bachelor/Bachelorette come together at a resort in Mexico and trade off getting dates each week. The rose ceremony switches each week from the women choosing to the men choosing. They mostly lounge on the beach and drink the whole day, hence the ‘Paradise’ title.
The Bachelor Winter Games is as if you were to take Bachelor in Paradise and put it in the middle of a snowstorm. The main difference between the two is that to go on a date, the contestants compete against one another in winter sports to win. The men compete against the men and the women against the women. Both winners get one date to invite anyone of their choosing. The rose ceremony is also a huge question mark.
One week in and there have been relationships, heartbreak and fierce competition. The international contestants come from countries including Canada, Germany, Switzerland, New Zealand, China and Japan. To begin the competition, in the most extra way possible that is only reserved for The Bachelor franchise, they had an opening ceremony, including one Chris Harrison and a parade. Unfortunately, they did have a Bachelor anthem that I cannot un-hear.
The first episode of the week (yes, there are TWO A WEEK!) featured a Survivor-style vote off, resulting in three contestants going home. The second episode, though, took from Paradise and gave the men the power to give out roses. Next week is still undecided though.
In Paradise fashion, if one person doesn’t receive a rose, another person takes their place. It’s pure savagery and genius. So if one person you like goes home, another one you probably equally like will replace them.
Some of our favorites have returned to the Games, which is both thrilling and a bit depressing (since they still have not found love). Contestants include Ben Higgins, Luke from Jojo’s season, Dean from Rachel’s, Ashley I., Bibiana from Arie’s and so many more international contestants!
Not only do these episodes feature great romantic dates, but they also have great wipeouts when contestants realize they suck at winter sports. The aspect of the Winter Olympics is a great entertainment factor for those who favor winter sports over summer.
Honestly, it’s some of the best entertainment out there for the season – besides the Olympics themselves, of course. I mean, who doesn’t have six hours a week to kill watching The Bachelor franchise?
