From his chaotic reappearance on TikTok to being that name everyone keeps dropping on YikYak, Herndon’s popularity this semester gives primary character energy. But for those still asking, “Who even is this guy?” this article might help share some knowledge!
Meet Ashton Herndon
TikTok Star, FSU Personality, and Alleged Super Senior
Ashton Herndon is a content creator, TikToker, and full-time instigator from FSU. According to his LinkedIn, he’s a third-year commercial entrepreneurship major, so he’s likely studying how to turn his chaotic social media personality into a full-time career.
But as always, FSU students don’t let anything simply get by. When a student uncovered his old high school photos and started the timeline math, the student body spiraled. Is Herndon a super senior? Did he invent a new grade level above 5th year? No one has a definite answer yet, and he’s not confirming or denying any of the rumors. Either way, he’s at FSU, he’s got a following, and he’s posting content faster than your situationship can leave you on read.
His Rise to Fame
Herndon started on YouTube in 2021, but it wasn’t until TikTok got involved that he became a campus name-drop. With over 150k followers and nearly 20 million likes, his videos take daily parts of college life and turn them into relatable and funny videos! If you’ve ever seen a street interview outside the Union asking, “Would you date someone who goes to UF?” it’s most likely to be Herndon making a video.
His most popular videos include “Florida Colleges Ranked (no feelings spared),” “A Brutally Honest Guide to Choosing a Major,” and, of course, “POV: You’re a Freshman at FSU During Syllabus Week.”
FSU, Front and Center
What makes Herndon different is how FSU-coded his content is. He films many of his videos on Landis Green and chills outside Strozier and the Wescott fountain. What’s ironic, however, is that with his FSU content, you’d think he’d wear garnet and gold on his sleeve, but he shadily drags our school in almost every video he makes.
He’s the unofficial spokesperson for the “FSU Party Reputation” and constantly addresses what life here is like, from basic Greek Life stereotypes to roommate horror stories and more.
Even though Herndon aims to do well, many students here at FSU have begun to feel that he causes some controversy, especially with the recent March Madness basketball game. He posted on TikTok while at UF and joked around, saying, “Your sign to choose the better school,” implying that students should choose UF if they can.
This TikTok sparked a lot of controversy throughout both TikTok and YikYak. Many people were posting memes of him, tagging pictures of him with comments like “Get this geed out of here!” and “FSU doesn’t want him anymore.”
His Downfall?
With popularity comes drama, and Ashton’s gotten his fair share. Whether it’s throwing shade at Greek life by saying, “They all dress the same and cheat,” or implying some majors are a waste of time, he’s never afraid to stir the pot.
Another huge, controversial moment of his has been with FSU itself. He promotes the school’s party scene online as its main aspect. He implies in many of his videos that if you don’t like to go out, FSU will not be the school for you, which is far from the truth! Many people rarely or never go out while here at FSU and have an amazing time. Part of this may be due to events from Club Downunder (CDU), other clubs and organizations, or simply focusing on academic life.
So, who is Ashton Herndon? He is a popular TikTok creator aiming to please the public at FSU and share his knowledge about various schools. While he represents FSU for many incoming freshmen, he also shares some controversy amongst the actual students at the school.
