Fall Is for Fashion: Five Trends to Get Ready For

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

The start to September calls for chai cookies, “All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version),” spiced teas, sweet-scented candles, pumpkin lattes, books, cozy coffee shops, and to top it all off, some Gossip Girl-inspired fall fashion. The introduction of cold weather kicks off the start of style season. It can be hard to dress chic when it’s 90 degrees outside, especially in Tallahassee where it can be easier to avoid going outside altogether. So, trade in your maxi skirts for sweaters and get ready for five fall trends to be spotted this season!

1. Red Leather & Red Pops of color

With red being the color of the season, I’m predicting we will see a multitude of shades, especially burgundy, in leather jackets. Red was seen all over the pre-season fashion runways, especially in the form of creative red pops incorporated into neutral palette outfits through the use of accessories, specifically with items such as purses and boots.

2. Thick Knit Socks & Birkenstock Clog Combo

Because this shoe style is more casual, we will be seeing a lot of this on college campuses and in more relaxed settings. I’m thinking these will be styled similarly to the UGG Tasman Clogs that arose to be one of the most coveted shoes of last season. I think we will be seeing these shoes styled with an oversized sweatshirt and mini shorts in the earlier part of the season when it’s beginning to cool down but still warm enough to have some skin exposed. When the weather starts to drop lower, I see this being styled with jeans, shackets or hoodies, and trucker hats for more of a streetwear style.

3. Chokers

There will be a return of chokers, but they will look different than the traditional 2016 choker that comes to mind. Black and white will be prevalent to keep the look classy and elegant. Flower and bow chokers will definitely be the predominant nighttime style, but I also predict that we will see silk-like fabric bandanas tied around the neck for a more daytime choker look.

4. Off the Shoulder Necklines

The iconic Serena Van Der Woodsen-inspired off-the-shoulder neckline is making a comeback this fall. Seen in neutral-colored tops and sweater dresses, the off-the-shoulder style keeps an outfit looking chic yet classy. Bonus points for the folded-over off-the-shoulder neckline look!

5. Buckle Boots

Black leather buckle boots, especially below the knee, will be seen in an increase this fall. The pops of silver metal will also make it easy to accessorize with purses, sunglasses, and jewelry. Dare I say, we might even see the resurgence of silver jewelry this season?

Overall, there will be a return to the blueprint of older trends that have been seen before, as with trends in every season, but with slight variations. The recent years have seen a more elegant and classy style to fashion, so all of these renditions usually feature the shared goal of timelessness.
