Is the Lip Case by Rhode the Next It Girl Item?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

We all know that a girl cannot live without her two must-have essentials: her phone and favorite lip product. As an on-the-move college student who has to attend in-person lectures every day, it’s easy to say that my day is instantly ruined if I show up to class without my phone or with dry, cracked lips that make me feel uncomfortable (and gross). It’s an ick if I notice other people with dry lips, but it’s an even bigger ick if I notice that I have dry lips myself.

I’m always on the hunt for the next big thing that can make all of our lives a little bit easier. I have an issue with misplacing things, and it would be cool not to have to worry about the two belongings I can’t go anywhere without. I’m happy to say that there’s finally a solution to avoiding forgetting your phone and your go-to lippie.

Meet the Lip Case by Hailey Bieber’s beauty brand Rhode. It’s not just a regular old phone case, but a next-level case that stores the brand’s lip balm perfectly inside it.

If you’re on TikTok or Instagram frequently, this is probably not the first time you’ve seen or heard about Rhode. The brand started going viral for its Peptide Lip Treatments and Peptide Lip Tints that nourish and hydrate the lips, with an assortment of unique fragrances and colors to choose from.

According to Allure, it’s one of 2024’s best lip balms to help achieve full, plump lips year-round while locking in moisture. Made out of three key ingredients (shea butter, babassu oil, and lactic acid), this plumping lip treatment even won the magazine’s “Best of Beauty” award in 2022.

After seeing numerous TikTok reviews and my own friends raving about Rhode, I finally caved in and bought the Peptide Lip Treatment in Salted Caramel to try it myself. And let me tell you — I wasn’t disappointed in the slightest. The product instantly hydrated my lips and gave me that juicy, plumping effect that I’ve always wanted. I apply the slightest amount in the morning, and it lasts me all day. Best of all, it tasted and smelled like salted caramel sauce on top of ice cream when applied. To die for.

In my opinion, the best lip products shouldn’t only replenish your lips but feel good too. Because this product exceeded my expectations, I knew after my first application that this was going to be the new go-to lippie I’d be carrying around.

I never imagined, however, that there would soon be a phone case created that could hold my peptide lip treatment. One day, I was scrolling on Instagram when I saw a mirror selfie of Hailey Bieber holding what seemed to look like an AI-generated phone case at first. I thought that it was initially a joke to gain publicity for Rhode, but when I started seeing influencers on TikTok talk about actually pre-ordering the product I became even more amused.

Turns out, it was a teaser to the actual product, which will be released on rhodeskin.com on Feb. 27. For $35, the so-called Lip Case is made of soft silicone that is molded to store any Rhode Peptide Lip Treatment or Tint of your choice inside. It’s suitable for both the iPhone 14 and 15 Pro/Pro Max.

Although I was skeptical about the case’s appearance at first, I think that it’s one of the most innovative ideas I’ve seen in a while. As a student in marketing, it’s genius since no other company that sells lip balms has yet to compete with this product. You can only purchase the case if you previously purchased a Rhode Peptide Lip Treatment, compelling you to buy both (a double win).

Additionally, thanks to the convenience of Apple Pay and other touchless pay systems, it’s unnecessary to bring your wallet everywhere with you as well. I like thinking that this Lip Case is a first step in replacing handbags, since nowadays all you ever need is your phone and your lip balm. It’s simpler than ever to only have to carry one thing with you on the go. You never have to rummage around in your purse to find your tiny lip balm again, making people who hate dealing with any sort of small inconvenience (me) feel relieved.

Can I see the Lip Case be the next trend for the girls? Yes, I believe so. With a convenient, bold design that is sure to turn heads and have people asking, “Where did you get that?”, I think this accessory may be something that I have to secure.
