My Experience at The Driver Era’s Newest Tour Has Me ‘Obsessed’

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Spring concert season is back and in full swing, with many artists kicking off their tours across the country and the world. While watching clips of musicians performing anywhere across the globe is fun, nothing beats the adrenaline rush of seeing an artist on stage in front of you, and I recently got to experience this rush again in 2025.

The Driver Era just started their latest tour — the Obsession Tour. The show, which shares the name of their upcoming album, Obsession, is currently on its first of two U.S. legs, beginning in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on March 7. I was lucky enough to attend the second show of the tour in Tampa on March 8, and I’m now obsessed with this band!

Here’s a breakdown of what to know about them, what to expect from the show, and any other details you need to ensure you’re ready for the Obsession Tour.

Who is The Driver Era?

The Driver Era is a two-person band featuring a pair of brothers who you may recognize from childhood. Ross and Rocky Lynch make up the band, with the former on lead vocals and a variety of instruments and the latter on lead guitar and backing vocals. They’ve been active since 2018, having released four albums, two EPs, and their newest project, Obsession, which is set to release on April 11.

I have to say, they’ve changed a lot since their Disney Channel days, adopting an indie alternative sound that is extremely popular today. This is also the brothers’ second band together, the first being R5, a pop band created with their two siblings, Rydel and Riker, and family friend Ellington Ratliff. R5 was active for many years, forming in 2009 and taking a hiatus in 2018 when The Driver Era was formed.

Ross is also very well known for his acting roles, getting his big break as Austin Moon in the hit Disney Channel show Austin & Ally and the Teen Beach Movie series. More recently, he has starred in darker series and films, such as My Friend Dahmer and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

The brother duo has cited a variety of artists and sounds that inspire their unique take on the genre. They credit their music to artists such as Calvin Harris, Dua Lipa, Tove Lo, the Fugees, and The Rolling Stones, developing a unique sound emphasizing spontaneity and letting the music flow naturally. Their technique for writing lyrics and music is simply going into the studio and having fun making whatever sounds good at that moment.

the show

The Obsession Tour is jam-packed with amazing songs, stunning visuals, and overall, a very fun energy. The stage is also a set, with the band moving around it and interacting with different levels, props, and backgrounds to tell the stories in their songs.

Speaking of songs, every single one they play is so, so good. I found myself jumping and dancing the entire time, they truly made a master of a setlist. Just note that if you do attend a show before the release of Obsession, there will be a good number of unreleased songs. The band has teased many of these on social media, but many are still unknown, but they’re incredible. If nothing else, they’ve made me even more excited for the new album!

I don’t want to spoil too many of the known songs on the setlist, but they definitely chose the right ones. They’re upbeat, fun to sing along to, and even more fun to dance to, even in a crowded arena. Many are even better live, and some have unique renditions of musical arrangements, like a Spanish-style influenced “Malibu” that had the entire crowd and Ross dancing the entire time!

Also, be sure to get to the venue early. The opener, Thomas Day, is amazing and brings so much energy to the crowd before the band goes on stage. I’ve been listening to his music non-stop since the show. The Driver Era also offers the chance to meet the band after the show if you fill out an online form before the concert starts. I’m nowhere near lucky enough to have been selected, but they choose about 10 fans per show, so there’s always a chance!

Merchandise

Artist merchandise is something I always look forward to at concerts, and The Driver Era’s certainly didn’t disappoint. They offer a variety of T-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, and bandanas, making the most difficult part just choosing which one to get.

My T-shirt is already a casual outfit staple, and the friends I went with can say the same! Fair warning though, popular sizes run out fast, so get there early if you’re set on a certain size and style. This may be venue and show-specific, but it’s just something to keep in mind. Also, Ross and Rocky have been at outdoor merch tents a few hours before the show for a few performances, so that’s certainly motivation to buy merchandise early!

What to wear

As a girl who can never decide what the appropriate attire for an event is, Pinterest is my most trusted source. Unfortunately, the pages for “The Driver Era concert outfit inspiration” are a bit all over the place. I spent a lot of time scrolling for a consensus on a vibe, and there wasn’t one. I saw bright colors, dark hues, and even country-inspired outfits, which is strange considering this isn’t a country concert.

I ended up showing my friends options for all these categories, and we ended up wearing darker colors to the show and certainly guessed right. The majority of fans at the Tampa show wore a darker top, jeans, and boots or sneakers. I did see quite a few cowboy hats in the pit, which I later realized was because Ross likes to wear a pink fluffy cowboy hat from a fan at the end of the show, which he certainly pulled off.

Of course, wear whatever you feel comfortable and beautiful in!

If you’re attending an Obsession Tour show soon, have so much fun. I wish I could go again; it was a great night of music. If not, give their music a listen, as it’s so fun and enjoyable, and I’m currently listening to their discography over and over again to relive the concert experience. Happy concert-going, everyone!
