We’re just under a month away from the start of Taylor Swift’s highly anticipated Eras Tour, so it’s time to plan your outfit. It’s important to wear what makes you most comfortable and confident, so here are some ideas based on Ms. Swift’s albums that can get some inspiration flowing.
debut/fearless
These albums reflect a time when Taylor Swift was mainly known for being a country singer. This would be a perfect opportunity to rock curly hair and throw on cowboy boots. To test out if this is the look for you, try sleeping with your hair in braids to get that crimped-curly hair look. Whether you’re more of a dress-up or dress-down girl, there are plenty of options for you. Flowy dresses or jeans with a blouse would work perfectly. The color scheme for these albums is light blue, seafoam green, white and gold.
speak now
Taylor Swift’s Speak Now tour was a sensation over a decade ago. Devoted fans can still picture her purple dress and ponytail that she notoriously wore during the concert. This exact outfit is what many people are trying to emulate, or just purple dresses and sets in general to match the gorgeous album cover. Make sure to write the number “13” on your hand just like Taylor did on this tour (but this can work for any era).
red
When this album comes to mind, you might think of her fun “22” music video or maybe the infamous red scarf from “All Too Well.” Either way, red, white and black are pretty safe guidelines to go by if you’re dressing for this era. You can keep it as fancy or as casual as you like, using her music videos for inspiration. This era is when Taylor first started rocking her bangs, so if you have some or want some, consider dressing for the Red era!
1989
This album is full of New York City vibes, so think of Fashion Week to help you pick an outfit. The color scheme for this album is blue and white. Taylor typically wore glittery, sparkly and plain two-piece sets during her performances and photoshoots in this era, so that’s something you can go by. She had her short blonde bobbed haircut at this time, so all my short hair girls, this might be your time to shine!
reputation
This was such an iconic period in Taylor’s life, combining her public comeback with her new attitude (or as some would say, her new reputation). In mourning for her past self, this era’s color scheme is mainly all black. This makes the possibilities endless for what you can wear. With black leather pants being popular right now, you can consider that as an outfit choice. Gold jewelry with a black outfit would create a perfect contrast to help your features pop despite the overall darkness of the outfit.
lover
Taylor Swift’s Lover era allowed her to transform her previous darkness into something fun and colorful. The album cover is full of light pink with some hues of blue and yellow as well. If pink is your favorite color, this is the era for you! Taylor herself even had pink streaks in her hair during this time, so some temporary (or permanent) dye might be something you can experiment with for your outfit. Some big earrings and anything with hearts on it can help you create the perfect look.
folklore/evermore
These eras came very close together, both released during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. This created another shift in Swift’s genre choices, giving her music slow, alternative vibes. If you’re trying to dress for comfort, consider dressing for one of these eras. Though they have similar vibes, Folklore has a gray color scheme and Evermore has an orange and navy blue color scheme. Cardigans of any kind would work for Folklore and flannels of any kind would work for Evermore. Braided hair would be the perfect touch to master this time in her life.
midnights
This is Taylor Swift’s most recent album and current era. Midnights has a navy blue and silver color scheme. A navy blue dress with silver jewelry or anything with stars on it would fit this theme perfectly. However, there are opportunities to wear some bright colors, especially using her sparkling outfit from the “Bejeweled” music video as inspiration.
When it comes to picking your perfect outfit, make sure to keep a few things in mind. First, dress in what will make you happiest, not just based on what you think everyone else will be wearing. Next, make sure to check the bag policy for the venue you’re going to; some places only allow small, clear bags. Finally, keep in mind that you might have a long walk from the parking lot to your seats, and many people stand during the entire concert, so let that influence your decision. Enjoy the Eras Tour; you’re going to look great!
