The month of September brings in the beginning of the fall season, and Sep. 1 marks the day that the Hogwarts Express departs from Platform 9 Âľ and makes its way to Hogwarts. Many Potterheads have long associated the season of autumn with all things Harry Potter, and those who are familiar with DracoTok also know that the start of fall means that Draco Malfoy and Harry Potter content will begin trending on TikTok.Â
Harry Potter & The Fall SeasonÂ
Harry Potter, Hogwarts, and Butterbeer are all things that many Potterheads associate with the fall season. One of my favorite fall activities is rewatching Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban while enjoying a hot chocolate. As September begins and the weather starts getting slightly cooler, many people gravitate towards reading and watching the books and movies from the Harry Potter franchise.Â
2020 DracoTokÂ
In the fall of 2020, my TikTok’s For You Page (FYP) became flooded with Harry Potter-related videos, specifically featuring Draco Malfoy and other Slytherin characters from the films. DracoTok was the side of TikTok that became viral in the fall of 2020, where users would share videos about Harry Potter characters, usually whom they thought were attractive, specifically Draco Malfoy. Videos about fan-casted characters from when Harry Potter’s parents were at Hogwarts, known as the Marauders era, also appeared all over TikTok. One of the most notable Harry Potter fan-casts is TimothĂ©e Chalamet as Regulus Black (Sirius Black’s younger brother) and Andrew Garfield as a young Remus Lupin. During this time, I couldn’t scroll through my FYP without seeing a video featuring Draco Malfoy and his fellow Slytherins or a TikTok cosplayer who created a video of themselves at Hogwarts.Â
The RevivalÂ
The fall of 2020 is nostalgic for many Harry Potter fans, especially those who ended up on DracoTok. It brought the Harry Potter franchise back into the spotlight and created a digital Hogwarts for users to escape to. During this era, Potterheads could connect with a strong community of fans to relate to on TikTok, and they could feel like they lived in the world of Harry Potter when they scrolled their FYP.Â
DracoTok returns each fall, now for its fourth year, bringing back all the nostalgia that fans have from the fall of 2020. The fall season is a perfect time to romanticize the cozy common rooms, Hagrid’s pumpkin patch, butterbeer, and the start of the school year, which is why DracoTok returns each year. Videos of Draco Malfoy, Harry Potter, his friends, and the Wizarding World are captivating for both Potterheads and regular TikTok users alike.Â
This fall is one to rediscover the magic of Harry Potter and its alluring characters, whether that is through the books and movies or watching videos on DracoTok.Â
