This Is Your Sign To Enter Your Pinterest Era

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard about the popular lifestyle app Pinterest. Users can compile or “pin” various articles and pictures they find interesting to their boards and organize different ideas. The different boards create visually aesthetic representations of life goals, dreams, or even just serotonin boosters (I’ve found that my board of puppies isn’t necessarily useful, but it always makes me smile!).

Pinterest is like living in an alternate world of love, joy, and creativity. There’s so much to learn and explore, all right at your fingertips. I’ve never found more vacation picture ideas, cake decorating inspiration, or workout regimes all in the same place, and every day there is something new and exciting to pin!

As an app, Pinterest’s popularity is on the rise. According to Oberlo, the popular lifestyle app unsurprisingly first peaked in popularity in 2020, dropped slightly in users the following couple of years, and peaked again in 2023. Pinterest has never been more popular than it is now, and it’s only growing. As such, there’s no better time to join in on the fun!

The “Pinterest Girl Aesthetic” has been trendy for a while now, and I have to say that I am a major fan of it. Not only has it promoted the app, but also an entire style of photography and aspirational dreaming of life goals. As college students, a lot of the content is marketed towards us, but the best part is that the app is completely free. Anytime I need life or aesthetic inspiration, having a convenient app to turn to is so helpful.

If you’ve never used Pinterest or don’t know where to start, no problem! Here are a few ideas to help you start pinning after you make your account.

Bullet journaling

I’ve recently gotten into bullet journaling, and Pinterest is a big reason why! There are so many good ideas for tracking your monthly sleep, workout habits, water intake, most listened-to songs, or anything else you wish you could track or highlight. Users from all over the world can post their beautiful calligraphy and page layouts for anyone to pin to their own boards. It’s such a great stress reliever and an inexpensive creative outlet for anyone, especially college students.

Recipes

There are so many amazing recipes on Pinterest, especially for college students. For almost anything you can think to cook or bake, there’s a recipe for it on the app. The best part? The app is completely free, so there’s no need to buy expensive cookbooks or download anything sketchy from the Internet. The pins also often have comments, where you can read how other people enjoyed the meal!

Outfits

Perhaps one of the biggest things Pinterest is known for is the unparalleled outfit inspiration it gives. As a college girl, I love to be in the know about the latest micro trends and fashionable brands. Pinterest has an amazing selection of fitspo (outfit inspiration) for all seasons and events, and it’s always my go-to when I need a new way to style my clothes!

These are just a few examples of what I consistently lean on Pinterest for. If you’ve been on the fence about downloading the app, here’s your sign to enter your Pinterest girl era and give it a go!
