5 Upcoming Book Releases I’m Excited for This Spring

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

As spring break approaches, I’ve found myself compiling a list of books I want to read. While scrolling through Goodreads, I realized that many of my most anticipated releases come out within the next couple of weeks. If you’re on the lookout for some (hopefully) good books to read in 2024, look no further. I’ve put together a list of the five books I’m most excited about this spring in order of release date.

The Prisoner’s Throne by Holly Black (marCH 5)

“An imprisoned prince. A vengeful queen. And a battle that will determine the future of Elfhame.” The Prisoner’s Throne is the sequel to Holly Black’s The Stolen Heir Duology, taking place eight years after the original The Folk of the Air trilogy. I’ve really enjoyed everything I’ve read of Black’s before, seeing as I’m a big fan of the political intrigue with a romance subplot combination. I’ll no doubt like this book just as much as her others.

Here We Go Again by Alison Cochrun (APRil 2)

Alison Cochrun wrote one of my favorite rom-coms ever when she wrote The Charm Offensive, so I’ll read anything she writes from here on out. Here We Go Again is a sapphic road trip rom-com between two ex-childhood best friends, and I’m very excited to start it once it comes out.

Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez (April 2)

I’m a sucker for Abby Jimenez’s Yours Truly, so she’s an auto-buy author for me. Just for the Summer is about two people who have the same curse: Everyone they date seems to find their soulmate the second they break up. To counteract this curse, they decide to date each other, break up, and go on to find their soulmates. I predict that they’ll end up with each other, but I think the concept of how they get together is creative. I’m excited to see it play out.

The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo (April 9)

Do I need to explain this one? Leigh Bardugo does it every time. From Shadow and Bone to Hell Bent, I’ve enjoyed every one of her works. I genuinely don’t even care what she writes about; I will read it.

The Familiar is an adult historical fantasy novel set in the Spanish Golden Age. Bardugo describes it as “the most romantic and most character-driven story” she’s written in her announcement of the book on Instagram, and I can’t wait to read it.

FUNNY STORY BY EMILY HENRY (APRIL 23)

Oh, Emily Henry, the woman that you are. My current ranking of her books from favorite to least favorite would be Beach Read, Book Lovers, Happy Place, and then People We Meet on Vacation. I am so ready to find a place for Funny Story in that ranking, and I have high hopes for it, seeing as it’s about the main character starting her new chapter by “falling in love with her ex-fiancé’s new fiancée’s ex.” Seems like a funny story indeed.

I hope these books live up to not only my expectations but yours as well if you decide to pick them up!
