The media drought is finally over! Movies and TV shows will be returning, and my favorite celebrities can finally promote the movies they’re in! The SAG-AFTRA strike officially ended on November 9. I don’t know about you, but there’s a lot I’m looking forward to now that the actors’ and writers’ strike is officially over! Here’s a list of everything I’m excited for.
Deadpool 3
Due to the actors’ strike, Deadpool 3 stopped filming in July. After I saw that Instagram post with Hugh Jackman in the comic book-accurate Wolverine suit, I was ready for this movie. The jokes between him and Ryan Reynolds are going to flow so well, and I know I’ll be laughing like crazy.
Stranger Things Season 5
Filming for Stranger Things Season 5 stopped in May because of the writers’ strike and continued to be halted when actors also went on strike. Now, with the strikes being over, filming will resume soon (even though the actors are now well into their 20s and will still be playing high schoolers… yikes).
The Last of Us Season 2
Last year, I was one of the victims who fell for Pedro Pascal on The Last of Us. I really need him back on the screen playing Joel. The strikes delayed production on Season 2, but the show will start filming in early 2024. This sadly means we will be without Daddy Pedro for another year.
Abbott Elementary
I could not in good conscience exclude this wonderful show that makes me want to go back to watching cable. It’s rumored to start filming later this month (I sure hope so).
Emily in Paris
After the cliffhanger that ended Season 3… yeah, I’m going to need more. Season 4 is set to start filming in January.
Mean Girls
This might be what I’m most excited about: the Mean Girls musical movie! As a former theater kid, hearing that Reneé Rapp would be reprising her role as Regina George made me nearly throw up from excitement. I was devastated when the trailer was released and none of the crazy talented actors were allowed to promote it. Now, with the strike being over, I’m so excited to see the marketing for this movie. I have Barbie-level marketing expectations for this movie.
Wicked
Again, the former theater kid in me is freaking out about this. Although I cannot forgive the alleged cheating scandal revolving around the movie, I’m ready for Cynthia Erivo to slay as Elphaba.
Thanksgiving
The Sexiest Man Alive is in this movie… alongside Patrick Dempsey. (I might be a little bitter at this year’s People’s Sexiest Man Alive choice, but that’s a story for another time). Milo Manheim is also featured in this Thanksgiving slasher movie and he’s my current celebrity crush. Since actors were not allowed to promote this movie because of the strike, I forgot that this movie was coming out.
Behind-the-Scenes Footage
I know this isn’t a movie or a TV show, but since actors weren’t allowed to promote or post anything about their projects, we haven’t had much behind-the-scenes footage. Simu Liu finally did a photo dump of some Barbie pictures and videos he had, and it was iconic. The Red, White, & Royal Blue cast has also been posting their videos and it makes me so happy to see the fun that went into making something so cool.
We are probably going to feel the effects of this strike for the next year or two, but I’m so excited to get back on the binge-watching train and see all this amazing cinema and television get produced.
