Look, Iā€™m not saying Iā€™m desperate enough to ask for the shade Firetruck red the next time I go to the nail salonā€¦ but Iā€™m getting pretty close after hearing about “the red nail theory.” For the ladies whoā€™ve been stuck in a romantic rut, experts have confirmed that red nails can actually attract potential male suitors. If painting my nails red is what it takes to get some delightful men, then grab me some nail polish. Brought to attention by TikTok creatorĀ Robyn Delmonte, the red nail theory quickly has become the new love potion for stealing a boyā€™s attention ā€” which is quite difficult, considering most of them have the attention span of a toddler. In her video, she claims that every time she wears red nails, a guy comes up to her and comments on the color. The hashtag,Ā #rednailtheory, surfaced on the internet as more and more girls were noticing a subtle difference in their appearance thanks to a shade of polish. For example,Ā @melissevmartineauĀ stated in her TikTok video that sheā€™s ā€œnever been asked out on so many dates or complimented as much in the past two or three weeks.ā€ I canā€™t believe that the whole time, red nails were the solution to grabbing a maleā€™s attention. And to think about the things I used to try beforeā€¦Ā

You know, the more I think about it, the more Iā€™m convinced about how simple the male mind really is. I bet when they see red nails they think,Ā Red. Thatā€™s Hot. Me like Red. Me like girl wearing red!Ā Not that us girls need male validation, but itā€™s an interesting concept to test out.Ā Trenna Seney, a celebrity nail artist, has noticed the recent upsurge in the number of clients who have requested red nails. In fact, some of her clients even come back to request the exact same shade, telling her, ā€œPeople come up to me and just start talking to me,ā€ and, ā€œI was at the bar and this guy started talking to me.ā€Ā

However, how do we know that all these stories and videos arenā€™t just a crazy coincidence? Well, according to psychologists, the color red has a weird, magnetic charm on men. In aĀ 2008 studyĀ conducted at the University of Rochester, psychologists discovered women wearing the color red made them appear more desirable and attractive. It also found that the color red made men extra eager to ask a woman on a date, as well asĀ pay moreĀ for the date. The best part? Men were seemingly unaware of the role that color played in their attraction.Ā

Carla Marie Manly, clinical psychologist and author of ā€œDate Smart: Transform Your Relationships and Love Fearlessly,ā€ explains why red is such a passionate and fiery color. Manly says, ā€œWhen we go back historically and look at the significance of the color redā€¦ itā€™s the color of blood, so it evokes that sense of, ā€˜I will give anything for you. I will do anything to prove myself whether it is to a country or to a woman.ā€ However, Manly also adds that ā€œIf youā€™re wearing red and you feel confident and powerful in red, you will definitely emanate a more attractive and maybe even more provocative energy.ā€Ā

Of course, the color red doesnā€™t define anyoneā€™s beauty, and itā€™s not a definite guarantee if you want to impress your crush. As long as you wear what makesĀ youĀ feel good, then Iā€™m sure youā€™ll attract just as much without the color. However, if you want to test the theory out for yourself, then maybe next time you head over to the nail salon, ask for the color that your grandma gets on her toes.
