Yesterday I had the opportunity, along with other Collegiette writers across the country, to partake in a virtual interview with Alex Pettyfer, known actor and one of the stars of Universal Pictures’ upcoming film “Endless Love.” In the film, Pettyfer plays David Elliot alongside Gabriella Wilde, who plays David’s love interest, Jade Butterfield. Jade comes from a wealthy family and David is nothing above working class – that doesn’t hinder their undeniable connection and sparks the summer of their lives. Jade’s father, played by Bruce Greenwood, is in complete opposition to the pair and does his best to keep them apart. For more details on the plot of the movie check out the trailer:Â
Pettyfer kicked off the interview by defining what endless love means to him: “It’s a connection between two people that grows. It’s chemical.” Pettyfer went on to tell us that he is a hopeless romantic while flashing his perfect smile. Swoon. “Endless Love” is based on a book by Scott Spencer and was originally made into a movie back in 1981 staring Brooke Shields. Pettyfer commented that it was a bit nerve-wracking to be remaking the film, but was comfortable knowing how different the films are. The film took a total of six months to make; four months were actually spent filming just north of Tallahassee in Georgia, which Pettyfer described as “great” and “very fun.”
Alex also answered questions pertaining to his other films and his personal preferences while filming. Pettyfer played Adam, “The Kid,” in Magic Mike back in 2012, which Pettyfer admits is both his favorite and most embarrassing past job – mainly because of his thong “uniform” and being thrusted by Matthew McConaughey. Pettyfer, who is originally from the United Kingdom, was asked about the cultural differences between England and the United States, to which Pettyfer mostly talked about the people: “I love America,” he said, “I love England as well, but Americans are easy to get along with, the English are a bit more cold. I could stop someone here in the street and strike up a conversation with them, but in England I couldn’t stop a random person and try to talk to them. They would think I was crazy.” Alex says he is happiest doing night shoots as he is a night owl and his necessary item to have with him on set is his iPod. The best advice he has received as an actor is to “Keep your private life private, and work separate,” which Pettyfer admits is hard in Hollywood today. Any picture he takes with a female could be misconstrued into his new girlfriend, which is something no one ever gets used to. Although Alex didn’t tell us much about his private life, he did spill that his mom would be his valentine this year.
Alex is excited for fans to see “Endless Love,” and see, “…love at it’s purest…when you feel like you can conquer the world.” He also hopes that everyone just has a good time seeing the movie. “Endless Love” hits theaters on, you guessed it, Valentine’s Day. However, you can see it before anyone else on February 10th. There will be a special showing of “Endless Love” at the Student Life Cinema at 8pm. Did I mention that it’s free? Check out the link below for more details on the event. See you all there!
