‘Filthy-Mouthed Wife’ Fires Back at President Trump

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

It’s no secret that Chrissy Teigen is not Donald Trump’s biggest fan. Anyone who follows the model, cookbook author and reality TV star’s Twitter knows she holds some contempt for our president and his policies, as well as his controversial social media presence. Teigen has been so outspoken in her disagreement with Trump’s moves during his presidency that Donald Trump even blocked Teigen on Twitter during his first year in office. So, when the president fired off a tweet berating her and her husband John Legend she was originally unable to see it. But in this day and age where screenshots exist, Teigen soon knew exactly what the president said.

Following John Legend’s appearance on an MSNBC town hall about criminal justice reform, President Trump took to Twitter to voice his grievances. Our president, in reference to receiving credit for the expansive criminal justice bill he signed in November, tweeted that people who had nothing to do with the bill’s passing were receiving the credit that he claims the Republicans deserve. Referring to himself in the third person, Trump complained that NBC anchor Lester Holt never brought “up the subject of President Trump or the Republicans when talking about the importance of Criminal Justice Reform.” The president goes on to say that people like “boring musician” John Legend and his “filthy-mouthed [sic] wife” Chrissy Teigen are praising the bill he was instrumental in passing, despite their lack of involvement in helping the bill get passed in the first place.

In an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Teigen describes the events of the night as well as her shock at being mentioned, even though she was neither seen in nor spoken about in the MSNBC special. “We all just wait for our day to come,” she muses on Trump’s tendency to pick fights with celebrities via Twitter. “Mine just happened to be Sunday.”

“Two of those things are true,” Teigen jokes about the president’s insulting remarks. “John is boring; I do have a filthy mouth.” She tells Ellen that she and John sat together for the rest of the night trying to figure out how to respond to Trump’s tweet. John responded in his characteristically composed way, calling the president out for watching MSNBC simply looking for accolades, and joking that Trump’s wife Melania should offer him more praise.

And in the trademark filthy-mouthed manner her Twitter followers know and love, Teigen fired off a tweet calling the president a name far too vulgar for me to repeat on Her Campus Dot Com.

Teigen’s nickname for the president quickly began trending on Twitter, given her following of over 11 million, and many other celebrities continued to show their support. Her response received nearly 10 times as many favorites as the president’s original tweet, which Jimmy Kimmel joked “means she’s our new president, right?”

Although “President Teigen” may not be in our vocabulary any time soon, Chrissy jokes that she and John are “still working on how to copyright the correct term” of “President P**** A** B****.”
