Spring is a beautiful season. The weather is perfectly crisp – not too hot and humid, not too cold and shivery – the smiles are bright, the events are endless and Landis green is covered with students’ bodies trying to soak in as much happy sunshine as possible. With only a few weeks left in the busy semester, we are all searching for things that remind us to smile and hold strong – summer is right around the corner. What better way of escaping the crushing stress of final papers and tests than escaping to the quaint town of Thomasville, Georgia, for a weekend of beautiful flowers and endless cheer? The weekend of April 21, Thomasville will be hosting their 95th annual Rose Festival. It won’t be too difficult to convince your fellow study buddies to drop the chemistry notes and smell the roses.

Thomasville is an idyllic small town getaway. With their local business booming (check out Grassroots Coffee and The Bookshelf bookstore) and their brick buildings framing their historic downtown, Thomasville is the perfect backdrop for the Rose Festival, which has been happening since 1922. Get out of class early on Friday? Head up to Thomasville to gaze and gander at the beautiful flowers presented at the 10th Annual Orchids on Parade event, attend the ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the opening of the 95th Annual Rose Show, take a seat street-side and drool over the Rose Parade as it marches through downtown Thomasville and dance through the city with your friends to the funky beats of The Swingin’ Medallions.
Saturday, if you’re feeling sporty and aren’t too tired from dancing through the Rose Festival the night before, take part in the Rose City 10K Run at 8 a.m. Then there are more flowers to be seen, an Art in the Park event featuring arts, crafts, food vendors and many a photo opportunity with your friends!

You won’t regret putting down your index cards and heading up to Thomasville over the weekend. Let the beauty of the roses brighten up your finals week, and enjoy the Rose Festival with your dearest friends, before cracking down again on your history notes. Good luck, and have fun, collegiettes.
