They‘re creepy and they’re kooky. Florida State University’s School of Theatre is taking our favorite macabre family to the stage in The Addams Family Musical starting February 16th thru March 4th. Based on the characters created by Charles Addams and music and lyrics by famous Broadway composer Andrew Lippa, this is how the School of Theatre describes the musical: “Everyone’s favorite creepy and kooky family is back in this new ghostly musical comedy. The Addams Family is facing their biggest nightmare yet – Wednesday is getting married! Wednesday begs Gomez to have “One Normal Night” as he must convince Morticia to host their new, Midwestern in-laws for dinner. Secrets are disclosed, relationships are tested, and the Addams Family is faced with one important question: what is normal?”
The production is directed by Jessica Lea Patty, an FSU alumna and renowned actress who starred in a production of The Addams Family on Broadway. Tickets for the show range from $22 for Adults, $20 for Seniors and only $10 for students that bring their college ID. This makes it the perfect thing to go to if you want to make your weekend a little different, but just as entertaining. The cast and crew have been training and working endlessly to give both the university and the Tallahassee community a stellar performance and through all their promotion on social media, you can tell they are both proud and excited to show off their hard work. Here is a video of one of their promos for the show, in the style of one of Vogue’s famous 73 Questions videos: 13 Questions with The Addams Family.
Also! If you can’t get enough of the Addams, or you want to know more about the mysterious and spooky family, then you should definitely head down to the Student Life Cinema. Co-sponsored with the School of Theatre, the Student Life Cinema is having a midnight showing of Addams Family Values– you know, that iconic movie that has spanned hundreds of Halloween gifs. It’s going to be on February 9th and this screening is free to both FSU students and the general public, so I recommend that you get their early when the doors open at 11:30 p.m.
So, whether you are a die-hard musical theatre fan, a fan of the Addams Family films or show, or someone who just wants to do something different for the night, I highly recommend you go out and see the show. Also, aside from having a good time, it is important to not only support your fellow peers but to also support the arts in any capacity possible. I think The Addams Family Musical is a show that is suited for both young and old and with the overall silliness and side hurting comedic moments, I think it is the perfect show for a musical theatre novice. So, go out and see your fellow Noles in this altogether ooky production! *snap snap*
P.S. Make sure you come back later and check out my overall review of the production!
