By now we all already know the answer to Beyoncé’s time-tested question, “Who run the world?” But come Feb. 28, the ladies of Florida State will really learn what it takes for them to run the world by attending the fourth Women in Leadership Conference at the Turnbull Conference Center.

This conference is a wonderful opportunity for women from a variety of educational backgrounds to learn how to utilize the skills they’re learning in their respective programs and apply them to the real world, all from real women in real and inspiring leadership positions.
The Women in Leadership conference begins at 4 p.m. on February 28, with an Opening Panel Discussion, a brief mixer and separate panels that cover a wide array of topics. There is surely going to be something to interest everyone in the crowd! Some of these special topic panels include: Women in Entrepreneurship, Women in Education/STEM, Women in Government, Women in Community Service/Philanthropy, as well as a special panel discussion on #LeanIn. #LeanIn is a nonprofit organization started by fellow #girlboss Sheryl Sandberg, who also wrote an inspirational book titled Lean In in addition to being the Chief Operating Officer for a little company called Facebook.
Notable panel members from last year’s conference include Courtney Duran, a Senior Consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton, a notable strategy and consulting firm; Felicia Jordan-Jackson, Ph.D., a member of the School of Communication at Florida State University; Margaret Massey, who is currently the Chief Information Officer at Spring Hill College; Sally McRorie, Ph.D., who is the Provost at Florida State University; Laura Osteen, Ph.D., who serves as the Director for the Center of Leadership and Social Change at Florida State University; Aliera Peterson, the owner and Chief Marketing Officer at Go Bright Marketing and Michelle Winkour, DrPH, who serves as the Deputy Chief Financial Officer for the Florida Department of Financial Services. Considering the previous year’s panel of kick-ass women, this year’s panel is sure to bring many talented women to the table to share their secrets on conquering the world.Â
After the panel discussions conclude, attendees are invited to participate in one of the many exciting workshop opportunities offered at the conference. These workshops include: Startups/Innovation, Developing Student Leaders, Personal Branding/Effective Networking (though attending the conference itself will be effective networking with like-minded and ambitious women), Diversity in Leadership and Men as Partners.
With the various panel discussions and workshop options, collegiettes will have plenty of chances to not only learn about the challenges they might face in the workplace but to also learn valuable skills for overcoming these challenges from people who actually understand the struggle of the modern woman.Â
The timing of this conference could not be more perfect since the incoming of the Trump administration means that it is paramount for women in college learn valuable skills to help them survive in the business world not only for the four years, but for the rest of their long and successful careers. Female leaders are often regarded as more empathetic than their male counterparts, and empathy in business will be vital in the next four years as this country and its economy heads into the future. These female leaders will be important for closing the wage gap, diversifying the workforce and increasing understanding within the workplace.
This conference is sponsored by the esteemed FSU College of Business, FSU College of Communication and Information, FSU College of Social Work and the Jim Moran School of Entrepreneurship. However, in order to attend, you must register ahead, and registration closes on February 14. So ladies, do something kind for yourself and for your future: register for this conference, tell all of your friends about it and join us for a fun night of opportunity on February 28.Â
